Since 1954 the Central California Blood Center (CCBC) has been the leading source of blood products for the Central Valley. Serving a population of over 1.5 million people, CCBC works with thousands of generous blood donors and local organizations to collect blood throughout the Central Valley and provide those vital blood products to our network of 30 hospitals and healthcare organizations throughout Fresno, Madera, Tulare, Kings and Mariposa Counties. FLSA Status: Full-time, non-exempt (hourly)
Hours per week: Must have the availability to be scheduled up to 40 hours per week (Monday - Sunday), work flexible shifts
Schedule: Be available to work a flexible work schedule, including Saturday and/or Sunday, and holidays
Pay Range: $17 - $19.50/hour (DOE)
Reports to: Fixed Site or Mobile Supervisor
Location: Fixed donor sites or mobile drives

Job Summary
Under direct supervision, the Donor Services Specialist is responsible for performing all duties related to the efficient, safe, and compliant collection of blood and blood products. Works collaboratively as a member of the Donor Services team across the organization to provide a positive experience to donors in alignment with CCBC's values. Performs a range of blood collection activities including whole blood, platelet, and plasma collections.
CCBC believes in supporting our staff's ongoing professional development and provides on-the-job (paid) training to all new employees, as well as opportunities for advancement through training on platelet and plasma donations. Essential Job Duties
Clinical:
- Perform donor health history screening with minimal errors.
- Must be able to maintain donor confidentiality.
- Develop and sustain proper blood draw technique with minimal discomfort to donors.
- Verify a donor's identity to ensure proper labeling of the blood.
- Enter donor information into database(s), ensuring data accuracy and compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assemble and maintain medical instruments.
- Maintain an organized and clean work area based on health and safety regulations.
- Remain current on all Standard Operating Procedures related to industry regulations.
- Responsible for driving a company vehicle or personal vehicle to field or mobiles drives, as well as reassignment from one CCBC location to another to meet operational needs.
- Educate and converse with donors to help them feel comfortable and confident about the blood donation process.
- Work in a fluid, dynamic professional environment, collaborating and promoting a positive attitude and teamwork.
- Express thanks/gratitude for blood donors time and donation.
- Address concerns donors may have about adverse reactions.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential, in accordance with CCBC policy.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
Requirements
Required Certifications/Licensure
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant program, or Certified Nursing Assistant, or licensed Phlebotomist.
- CPR certification.
Required:
- Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
- Familiar with medical terminology.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid driver's license.
- Must have a driving history with no major violations in the last five years.
- One year of phlebotomy experience.
- Previous experience in a customer service/hospitality role (i.e., retail, restaurant, etc.).
- Experience with patient management/blood management software.
- Bilingual, including ability to communicate medical/clinical concepts.
- Able to read and comprehend written procedures and instructions.
- Socially/Culturally/Ethnically perceptive and responsive.
- Possess excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
- Punctual and self-disciplined.
- Attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook/email).
