What we are looking for: As the Fire Protection Division Chief, you will supervise the Fire Protection Division Deputy Chiefs and the Keep Oregon Green (KOG) President to provide statewide policy, coordination, and leadership in Fire Protection, Cooperative Fire, Prescribed fire/Smoke Management, and to represent the agency regionally and nationally. Additional duties include: Maintain and apply knowledge of national, regional, state, and local fire and information technology-related programs to the development of policies and procedures that address Oregon’s wildfire protection and equipment pool-related issues. Represent agency programs and positions in state, regional and national forums with final decision authority in matters delegated by the State Forester/Deputy State Forester/Deputy Director-Fire Operations. Provide strategy recommendations regarding Fire Protection, Fire mitigation, and related topics to the Board of Forestry, State Forester, Deputy State Foresters, legislators, and other public policy makers. Serve as a member of the Executive Team responsible for providing aligned executive leadership for implementation of agency programs and policies. Directly supervise Fire Protection Division Deputy Chiefs, and KOG President (Wildland fire program manager 2, Natural Resource Protection and Sustainability manager 2 and one Ops and Policy Analyst 3) to assess policy needs, develop policy and implement policy. Ensure that appropriate procedures, central services, and training for the program are developed and implemented. Oversee program and division work plans to ensure accountability for high standards of performance, appropriate allocation of resources, completed staff work and maintenance of policies necessary to implement programs efficiently and effectively. Minimum Qualifications Five years of management experience. OR Two years of management experience and a bachelor’s degree in the field of science, forestry, or a natural resource area relative to the duties of the position. Note:

Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record. Desired Skills: Ability to make recommendations and decisions regarding Division policies and Division-related state and federal legislation. Experience developing and preparing long-term strategic objectives that align with the mission, vision, and high-level goals for the agency. The Incumbent has direct expenditure authority for the Protection budget therefore, it is required to have experience managing a budget. Proficiency of "proficient- to-advanced-level" for the following skills: Effective Communication, Mentoring and Developing People, Stewardship, and Intentional Engagement. Knowledge of policies and procedures that address Oregon’s wildfire protection programs and issues. Ability to provide strategy recommendations regarding Fire Protection and mitigation issues. Experience directing, mentoring, and supporting the work of staff sometimes in high paced, stressful circumstances. How to Apply: Required:
