Job Overview
The Director, Tax Accounting is responsible for all aspects of TerraCycle’s tax function. The position works closely with third-party tax compliance and tax strategy advisors based in the US and abroad to ensure TerraCycle’s compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all TerraCycle tax matters including compliance, reporting tax planning
- and strategy, and incentive tax opportunities
- Facilitate and manage the accurate and timely preparation and filing of the company’s state, local and federal tax forms, as well as tax filings for international locations
- Monitor changes to tax laws and regulations, and lead appropriate updates to TerraCycle’s policies and strategies
- Analyze impact of key transactions and decisions on tax
- Manage and facilitate tax inquiries and audits by the relevant authorities
- Work with internal and external legal counsel and external auditors as needed
- Develop and maintain the required record keeping support for all tax matters related to the company’s business activities
- Identify and address opportunities for improvement and areas of risk within existing processes, driving towards Sarbanes-Oxley as the Company prepares for a potential initial public offering in the medium term
- Support special tax and legal related projects
Desired Qualifications
- CPA or JD/active law license highly desirable
- 7-10 years of experience in a tax accounting role and at least 2 years of experience in a
- management role
- Experience working in public accounting or corporate tax department
- Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills
- Excellent knowledge of US federal, state and local taxation for corporations
- Knowledge of IFRS (GST/VAT in Canada/EU) and transfer pricing documentation
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Direct experience with ASC 740
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks independently and as a team
- Strong management skills
