The Accounting Manager oversees daily accounting operations, including financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end closings. They manage accounting staff, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and support budgeting and audit activities. This role requires strong analytical skills and attention to detail to maintain accurate financial records and improve processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting Management:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger management.
  • Participate in the monthly financial close process, including preparation of journal entries, supporting schedules, and reconciling balance sheet accounts.
  • Drive the commission collection review process.
  • Reconcile commission payments between operating system and accounting system, ensuring profit center allocations are appropriately applied.
  • Conduct variance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting to support strategic decision-making.
  • Work with the Director of Accounting and Finance on fine-tuning internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to ensure financial accuracy and integrity.
  • Assist with preparation of tax workpapers for third party CPA firm.
  • Assist with annual 401k audits.
  • Prepare government census reporting.
  • File sales tax returns in multiple jurisdictions and research sales tax issues as needed.
  • Oversee the entire payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll for all employees, as well as quarterly/annual incentive bonus payouts.
  • Monitor and stay current on payroll-related legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Assist in the administration of employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other company-provided benefits.
  • Prepare annual Form 1099.
  • Support an environment of continuous improvement and help implement automation to improve efficiency.

Team Management and Collaboration:

  • Supervise, train, and mentor accounting and payroll staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Collaborate with leadership and recruitment on employee onboarding, offboarding, and other HR-related functions impacting payroll and accounting.
  • Support senior management with ad hoc financial projects, analysis, and reporting as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with payroll and sales and use tax.
  • Proficiency in accounting and payroll software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, ADP) and advanced functions in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable in a changing environment and passionate about driving efficiency through continuous process improvement and automation.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
