Job Description
Nuwellis, Inc. is a medical device company dedicated to transforming the lives of patients suffering from fluid overload with its Aquadex SmartFlow ultrafiltration therapy.
The Accounting Manager is responsible for general accounting and general accounting activities including maintenance of accounting systems and standards and delivery of key financial management reports. This position is responsible for the payroll function, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations.
This is an onsite position, requiring a full-time in-person presence at Nuwellis' corporate office in Eden Prairie, MN.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage accounting/payroll team members and regularly interface with management and employees on accounting and payroll matters.
- Leads team in performing balance sheet reviews and reconciliations.
- Lead monthly accounting close process including review of journal entries, account reconciliations.
- Perform general accounting duties including reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, inventory reports, monthly manufacturing absorption entries, tracking of costs using accounting software and excel, and date input of other accounting entries as requested.
- Evaluate existing policies, processes and controls to identify areas for improvement, and ensure effective application.
- Understand and interpret current and new accounting regulations and recommend new procedures.
- Partner with and communicate the accounting implications of transactions to internal stakeholders at all levels.
- Analyze and resolve complex accounting, reporting and process issues.
- Assist with the completion of internal and external financial reporting.
- Focus on improvements; identify and manage efficiency initiatives.
- Contribute to software implementations and recommend appropriate software based on our unique and changing needs.
- Participate in special project work such as implementation of new systems.
- Work directly with internal & external auditors to ensure successful & timely completion of audit.
- Assist the Controller in documenting accounting procedures.
- Assist the Controller in compiling supporting documentation for domestic and international tax returns.
- Own annual 401(k) and Workers Comp audits.
- Responsible for the implementation, maintenance and reviewal of payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Support human resource function with HRIS and benefits processing.
- Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Review and prepare third-party paperwork for filing payroll and sales taxes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of related experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
- Four-year degree in accounting.
- Experience in accounting and payroll processing.
- Experience in General Ledger information systems and payroll systems.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with multiple deadlines in a fast-paced growing environment.
- Strong attention to detail while performing tasks.
- Ability to work with others in a multi-department office environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Software suite of products.
- Experience using Microsoft GP Dynamics accounting software
- Experience using and interacting with Paylocity.
- Ability to handle confidential information in an appropriate manner.
