FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $20 - $22/hr.
Reports to: Controller
Position Overview: The Accounting Technician performs financial and accounting duties and supports the Finance and Accounting Department. The Accounting Technician’s responsibilities include providing data entry for processing payments, and funds receipts, posting activities in the sub-ledger and general ledger and providing overall support to the Diocese administration.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Process and post daily funds receipts and payments including cash, check, and EFT: ACH & wires
- Prepare and post journal entries
- Assist with the stocks donation process and posting
- Post financial activities as assigned
- Assist with the preparation of year-end closing and annual audits
- Assist with the annual budget preparation by performing assigned tasks in preparing the department budget schedules.
- Serve as backup to process and post accounts payable invoices
- Serve as backup to process payments to vendors
- Serve as backup to process billing to Parishes and Schools
- Perform other administrative tasks as assigned

Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- 1+ year of accounting experience
- Knowledge and experience with computerized general ledger systems, spreadsheet design, and database management and reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other Cloud Based Software applications.
- Intermediate Excel Skills
Knowledge & Skills:
- Demonstrate a self-directed capacity to organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical deadlines
- Detail-oriented, motivated team player with a strong ability to multi-task
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exhibit good customer service acumen
- Attention to detail with strong data entry
- Knowledge of accounting software, including Microsoft Dynamic Great Plains and other cloud-based software
- Non-profit accounting experience, a plus
- Familiarity with the structure and practices of the Roman Catholic Church preferred
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to remain in an office at a computer workstation and access information from a computer and use a telephone. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the office, as well as maneuver throughout the facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
