Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for assisting the Accounting Manager in recording all financial activities within the organization, including preparing account reconciliations and financial statements, recording general ledger activity, performing the accounts payable process, prepare bank deposits, and serves as backup to payroll processing.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Accounting Assistant does not supervise other positions.

ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Review, record and monitor all financial activity to ensure accurate reports and compliance with all applicable laws, procedures and policies
- Perform accounts payable activities to ensure accurate and timely payment to vendors
- Prepare account reconciliations and financial statements to provide accurate and timely information for financial reporting
- Prepare weekly bank deposit to ensure funds are available on a timely basis
- Record deposits and reconcile bank accounts to provide accurate information for financial reporting
- Assist Accounting Manager on creating annual budget to provide both short-term and long-term financial direction to company
- Assist Accounting Manager with creating and updating various work papers for independent auditors to review financial information, procedures, and practices to ensure adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and provide consistency in the financial reporting
- Provide and maintain reliable and prompt attendance, with the ability to work the schedule dictated by business necessity
PERIODIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Record payroll entries into general ledger
- Review accounts receivable, calculate allowance and bad debt before recording revenues
- Attend meetings as required
- Serve on committees as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related discipline and
- Two years’ related work experience or
- Associate degree in related discipline such as Accounting, Finance or related discipline and
- Five years specific work-related experience
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
- Possess base level knowledge and experience of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
- Possess general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll knowledge, and company policies/procedures that apply to finance and accounting
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret business communication
- Possess knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, with demonstrated abilities in Excel and Word
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate in both written and oral forms
- Ability to comprehend written and oral communication
- Ability to proof and check documents for accuracy
- Demonstrate high level of attention to detail
- Ability to review and record data with high degree of accuracy
- Ability to use established procedures and policies, along with independent judgment, in order to solve problems
- Ability to manage multiple, competing tasks and demands and manage time efficiently
