Starting Pay: $64,600-$80,750

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the accounting functions, including cost and general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, reconciling financial statements, budget preparation and analysis, and overseeing month-end and year-end close. This role is responsible for implementing and enhancing department automation to ensure optimum processing and efficiencies for the organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintains the organization’s general ledger, and tracks assets, liabilities, expenses, and revenue.
  2. Establishes and manages effective and efficient claims processes that ensure timely reconciliations and ensures accuracy of general ledger accounts, including accounts related to federal and state programs, fixed assets, payroll, as well as subledgers
  3. Oversees month end and year end close process to ensure timely preparation of financial statements.
  4. Maintains and reviews monthly reconciliations to support accuracy of balance sheet and profit and loss numbers.
  5. Maintains schedule of reconciliations to support the accuracy of balance sheet and profit and loss numbers for audit purposes.
  6. Coordinates and assists with annual audits such as preparation for audit and fieldwork.
  7. Maintains all required investment statements and fixed asset supporting documentation for audits.
  8. Assists with financial statements, report development, and budget preparation and analysis.
  9. Prepare monthly reimbursement requests for federal and state programs.
  10. Maintains the schedule of federal and state expenditures.
  11. Maintains all required grant documentation.
  12. Prepares monthly roll forward of fixed asset additions, disposals, and depreciation.
  13. Prepares monthly roll forward of investment purchases, sales, gain/loss, and interest/dividend income.
  14. Maintains tracking of capital expenditures for capex budget.
  15. Prepares bi-weekly payroll import file, reconciles to payroll register, and posts to general ledger.
  16. Prepares monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts for all related payroll.
  17. Reconciles bank ledger monthly and monitors bank balance daily for proper cash management ensuring enough funds are in the operating account.
  18. Maintains and prepares payroll tracking for department, program, and grant budget and expenditure purposes.
  19. Prepares transaction and monthly general ledger entries for investment activity.
  20. Advises and collaborates with department managers regarding purchase requisition, vendor setup processes, and budget to actual questions.
  21. Researches and implements, as appropriate, new systems and processes.
  22. Interfaces with the IT Department in the development and implementation of efficient systems consistent with new software applications.
  23. Adhoc reports or requests.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages two (2) or more direct reports by providing guidance and/or oversight to employees and/or contractors. Develops and maintains roles, responsibilities, and expectations. Practices performance management in support of employee development, and perform administrative duties associated with being a people manager. Responsibilities include interviewing, planning, assigning, directing work, and resolving problems. Responsibilities also include sponsoring and participating in and/or supporting project teams sponsored by other management team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting, Business Administration or closely related field
  • 5 or more years of accounting experience at a management level
  • 5 or more years of supervisory experience
  • Strong knowledge of GL, A/R and A/P processes with significant experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, budgeting and financial reporting with significant experience.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

Certified Public Accountant preferred

Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and insurance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required daily to analyze and interpret data, communicate, and remain in a standing or stationary position for a significant amount of the workday; and often access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The employee must regularly move about the office and around the facility, use hands, wrists, and fingers to grip, type, and write. The employee must frequently lift 10 pounds. The employee will need to have the average ability to hear horns, warnings, and alerts associated with a warehouse. The employee must occasionally travel to other sites for business.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While the job is generally performed in an enclosed office environment, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, strong food-related smells, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the employee will be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels (e.g., horns, fans).

TRAVEL REQUIRED:

Travel is required for this position (up to 10% of the time and on a domestic basis within our 18-county service area).

This role supports hours of operations at HFB facilities, as necessary, and may require flexibility (e.g., times of disaster, community events, company events).
