Accounting Manager

Location: Columbia, MD

Flexible hours 35 per week, in-person

About the Accounting Manager role

This position is responsible for oversight of the financial operations of the organization including assisting with budget planning, payroll, accounting, reporting and preparation for annual financial review.

We are currently using MIP Fund Accounting, a step above Quickbooks Pro that enables us to managing multiple programs and numerous grants. 

Expectations

• Oversees daily operations of the accounting department including supervision. 
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and policies.
• Coordinate materials as requested for annual financial review and assist audit firm with 990.  Support submission of Form 5500 and Personal Property taxes.
• Assist staff with budget creation.
• Prepare financial reports for grant funders, board of directors and CEO/President.
• Prepare forecasts for programs and justify budget variances.
• Continually assess and implement technology solutions to streamline financial operations and reporting.
• Manage the cash flow of the business, under the direction and support of the CEO/President, so that we are able to fulfill our mission.
• Manage all bank accounts and complete bank reconciliations.
• Support Human Capital Director to ensure accuracy of biweekly payroll and review annual W2s and 1099s.
• Ability to assist accounting staff as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business management or equivalent experience
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in accounting not for profit preferred
• Aptitude and willingness to learn new computer programs and software packages.
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel
• Strong knowledge of accounting rules and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Ability to work independently
• Excellent analytical skills
