About UDCU:

This position will report to the CEO of the Utility District Credit Union (UDCU) which serves current employees, retirees, and their families of East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD), which has served the East Bay with clean water for more than 100 years and has been treating wastewater for nearly 75 years. UDCU has a small staff of 4-5 and two branches located at EBMUD facilities. Services primarily include checking and savings accounts, auto loans, and personal lines of credit. We aim to have the lowest interest rates among peer credit unions to fulfill the original purpose of the credit union, founded in the depths of the Great Depression in 1935 to extend credit to employees from employees' own funds.

Responsibilities:

  • Process daily transactions, including overdraft notices, loan notices, and vault/teller drawer reports.
  • Reconcile accounts, researching and resolving discrepancies.
  • Post journal entries for various transactions.
  • Manage Automated Clearing House (ACH) and share draft exceptions, handle NSFs/returns, and contact members as needed.
  • Approve wire transfers, create investment screens, and post maturities.
  • Review and reconcile payroll postings, ensuring accuracy.
  • Process UDCU payroll, including payroll, taxes, and 401(k).
  • Pay bills electronically using our accounting software.
  • Prepare CALL report items and submit quarterly income/loss
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations, attend meetings with the Supervisory Committee, and create reports for management.
  • Calculate and post month-end journal entries, verify automated processes, and review investment accounts for accuracy.
  • Generate financial statements and prepare year-end documentation for audits and tax filings.
  • Assist with miscellaneous tasks like ordering supplies and signature cards.
  • Support the CEO and Operations Officer as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of bookkeeping experience in a credit union or financial institution.
  • Proficient in accounting principles and practices with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with accounting software is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
  • Familiarity with financial software (Catalyst, ShareTech).
  • Highly self-motivated and takes ownership
  • Excellent PC skills, particularly in Excel and Word, and the ability to apply complex accounting and analytical concepts to assigned duties.
  • Must be detail oriented, have excellent time management skills and be able to multi-task various responsibilities throughout the day, week and month.
  • Ability to speak effectively to vendors, members and employees of the organization.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel or crawl.

Benefits

Financial Accounting Specialist-Hourly Range: $31.00-$35.00

Monday-Friday

Expected Hours: 25 per week
