The Director of Accounting position is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. Confidentiality, excellent organizational skills, and accuracy are important qualifications for this position, as well as good vendor and customer relations skills and the ability to communicate clearly both internally and externally. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Develop financial policies and procedures.
  • Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Manages accounting operations related to payroll, billing, collections and accounts payable.
  • Manage HR functions such as benefits enrollment, offer letters, background checks, onboarding, w2s, etc.
  • Coordinate with the IT department regarding software, email, and computer equipment needs.
  • Process payroll and post journal entries.
  • Coordinate payroll taxes, income taxes and insurance.
  • Select vendor invoices for payment and assist with the payment process.
  • Manages month-end and year-end close process.
  • Coordinates budgets and forecasts.
  • Manage banking relationships, systems, and processes.
  • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data. Produce monthly financial statements.
  • Produce weekly cash forecast.
  • Produce commission reports, send for approval and process payments.
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Analyzes budget variances and initiates corrective actions.
  • Ensures that the computer software and systems are designed to meet operational and accounting requirements.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; advising management on needed actions.
  • Hiring, training and managing financial staff (as needed) by recruiting, selecting, and training employees.
  • Assists with coordination of audits and tax returns.
  • Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
  • § Contributes to team goals as needed.
Requirements:

The Controller should have a bachelor's or master’s degree in accounting. Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant designation.

  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting required.
  • § Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and leadership skills are mandatory.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational ability.
  • Experience with payroll and accounting systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel.
