Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to oversee our accounting operations. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, this role requires a strong background in accounting and control processes, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. The ideal candidate will have experience in inventory-led businesses and proficiency with accounting software like Xero. You will oversee a team of two, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial information. This position offers opportunities to develop Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and finance-related skillsets for an aspiring accountant.
Essential Duties and Functions:
- Accounting Oversight:
- Manage and oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial information.
- Oversee Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) functions.
- Monitor and reconcile inventory accounts to maintain accuracy.
- Review inventory costing, including cost of goods sold and valuation.
- Ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Document and maintain accounting processes and internal controls to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Review general ledger accounts and accruals on at least a quarterly basis.
- Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Responsible for internal controls of operations, ensuring assets are adequately safeguarded and results are accurately reported.
- Support preparation for year-end audit and tax filings.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Inventory Accounting:
- Ensure accuracy of the physical inventory and reported results.
- Support the analysis of potential excess and obsolete items.
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor a team of two accounting staff members.
- Provide training and support to enhance team performance.
- Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.
- Responsible for direct day-to-day management of employees, including supervision, direction, coaching, scheduling/time off, and performance management.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement improvements in accounting processes and systems.
- Significant focus on business process improvement.
- Collaborate with other departments to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
- Financial Reporting:
- Support the consolidated internal and external financial reporting.
- Prepare financial statements and reports as needed.
- Assist in other projects to help the company achieve improved efficiency and financial performance.
- Professional Development:
- Opportunity to develop FP&A skills, including financial modeling, cash flow analysis, and management reporting.
- Support strategic financial planning initiatives under the guidance of the VP of Finance.
Qualifications / Competencies:
- Education & Certification:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
- Experience:
- 6+ years of experience in accounting roles.
- Prior experience in an inventory-led business is highly advantageous.
- Experience with Xero or similar accounting software is desirable.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and internal controls.
- Advanced proficiency with MS Excel.
- Strong detail orientation.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with direct reports, peers, senior managers, and executives, both orally and in written form.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Work Environment:
- Flexible work arrangement with a combination of work from home and in-office presence.
