Job Summary
The Principal Technical Accounting Analyst supports all aspects of accounting research and technical accounting analysis under US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position will also assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual consolidated financial statement and external reporting on the Form 10-Qs and 10-Ks.
Key Accountabilities
- Interpret U.S. GAAP accounting standards and SEC guidance to determine and document the accounting and financial reporting treatment for new and or complex, unusual transactions or agreements.
- Review all material revenue contracts under ASC 606 and lease contracts under ASC 842
- Assist Technical Accounting and External Reporting Manager by facilitating and coordinating external and internal audit requests, external reporting support inputs, and other deliverables for the quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements
- Coordination with internal and external auditors on the preparation of audited financial statements and internal controls compliance
- Coordination and preparation of financial and operational reporting to regulatory agencies such as FERC, MPSC, etc.
- Research current and emerging accounting issues and implements related accounting policies and procedures
- Facilitates and supports identification of process improvements.
- Creates a positive working environment, including training and development
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Minimum of eight years' experience in accounting and/or auditing
- Certified Public Accountant certification
- Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP and SEC guidance
- Experience with external SEC reporting for a publicly traded company
- MBA or Masters in Accountancy is preferred
- Some public accounting experience is preferred
- Ability to drive change and achieve project goals
- PC Proficiency, including experience with MS Office Products and Workiva
- Demonstrated ability to implement operating system tools and techniques
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and guidance to others
- Ability to work with individuals at all levels, both internal and external to the company
- Demonstrated ability to communicate well with others. Proficient verbal, non-verbal, written, and presentation skills
