As a key member of the JIB/AR and E&P teams, The Senior Accountant will be responsible for executing and supporting routine accounting and finance close responsibilities, including operated JIB accounting, non-operated JIB accounting, accounts receivable accounting, capital and LOE accruals, unproved leasehold accounting, acquisition and divestiture accounting, DD&A, ARO, AFE set-up reviews, other operational reporting, and other duties as assigned. The individual will be expected to evaluate non-routine transactions, project and process improvement efforts, and perform research and analysis. A successful individual in this position will demonstrate initiative, is able to communicate to various stakeholders, is willing to develop others within areas of responsibility, and is able to work both independently and collaboratively.

Primary Relationships:

Accounting, Internal Audit, Reserves Engineering, Operations, Land, Business Development, Treasury, Financial Planning & Analysis, Legal, and Tax. External relationships include auditor(s), third party buyers/sellers, JV partners, and consultants.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Review and analyze the results of recurring transactions
  • Analyze and evaluate complex, non-routine transactions
  • Ensure timely completion of accounting close responsibilities (i.e. journal entries, account reconciliations, etc.)
  • Prepare meaningful financial information, analysis, and reports
  • Understands risk and maintains and adheres to internal control structure
  • Provide training and development within area of responsibility
  • Apply competent accounting principles and understand financial statement impacts related to functional area
  • Seeks to understand accounting impacts outside of area of responsibility
  • Review the reconciliation and analysis of various accounts
  • Respond to audit requests and coordinate audit activities
  • Lead and/or participate in departmental projects/initiatives
  • Identify, recommend, and assist in the implementation of best practices and improvements to processes within functional area
  • Monitor and analyze process performance metrics and adjusts as necessary
  • Understands and applies competent oil and gas industry specific concepts within area of responsibility
  • Perform and coordinate inventory counts and impairment assessments
  • Review all customer master data inputs
  • Provide accounts receivable collection support and perform allowance analysis
  • Deliver effective written and verbal communication
  • Other general duties as assigned

Computer/Software Applications:

  • Proficient computer literacy
  • Experienced with MS Office applications, advanced Excel skills a plus
  • Working knowledge of SAP Projects, Assets, JVA, FICO modules is a plus as is EnergyLink, Crawford Plus Pack, Power BI and Alteryx
  • Ability to learn and adopt new and changing systems and applications
  • Proficient understanding of power user support model
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a hybrid and/or primary work environment is required

Role-Specific Technical Knowledge & Skills:

  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic, team player, critical thinking and attention to detail
  • Keeps current and is competent within discipline and area of responsibility
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP
  • Has a general knowledge of COPAS accounting guidelines and MFI’s

  • Maintains a positive attitude, is adaptive to change, and demonstrates and fosters the highest ethical standards
  • Ability to perform technical research and provide timely guidance to others on complex accounting matters

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field of study. Master’s degree in Accounting or related field of study a plus
  • 4+ years of relevant work experience required (8+ years in lieu of education).
  • Oil and gas accounting experience preferred.
  • CPA preferred.
  • APA, CIA, CFE, CGMA or other relevant professional credentials and certifications a plus

Working Environment: Denver – Hybrid with ability to commute to the Denver office on short notice and as needed to support business requirements; this role should expect 2-3+ days in office on average per month.

Travel Requirements: Minimal, if any

Salary Range

$85,000 To $105,000 Annually
