Salary Range
$70,000.00 - $80,000.00 depending on qualifications
Essential Functions
This position serves in a key role within the AVPBA/Controller's team, responsible for managing and performing complex accounting activities to ensure accuracy and efficiency in the University's financial operations. The role oversees Accounts Payable, Travel, Accounts Receivable (A/R) Collections, Treasury, and general ledger activities. This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial data through developing and monitoring accounting systems, managing cash flow, preparing financial reports, supporting audits, overseeing collections, and managing special projects, while ensuring compliance with applicable accounting principles and regulations. The role also involves collaboration across departments within the university to address specific needs and resolve issues as they arise. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Official duties ad responsibilities include:
* Supervision: Lead and manage accounting staff by prioritizing, and coordinating work activities to ensure accurate processing and/or recording of transactions related to accounts payable, travel, treasury, and other assigned areas.
* Accounts Payable & Travel: Provide direction, training, and oversight of payable and travel functions to ensure timely payments and compliance with university policies and procedures.
* Treasury Function: Oversee daily bank operations, including cash flow forecasting, establishing the daily cash position, transferring funds, moving cash to prearranged investment accounts, and maintaining liquidity to meet financial obligations.
* Accounting Closure Processes: Oversee monthly and year-end general ledger closure processes, including activities related to the University's annual financial audit.
* Reconciliation: Ensure accurate monthly reconciliations for all accounts.
* Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing monthly and annual financial reports. Compile and reconcile data for the Annual Financial Report and prepare SEFA and SPTR schedules.
* Compliance & Auditing: Ensure compliance with University, Federal, and State regulations. Review and authorize expenditures, oversee accounting records, and serve as one of the points of contact for internal and external audits.
* Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service, responding to inquiries related to areas of responsibilities. Coordinate with Financial Aid, Bursar, and Procurement Services.
* Training & Development: Guide, train, and evaluate staff performance, and identify and implement process improvements for greater efficiency.
* Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional tasks to support the AVPBA/Controller's office and the University's financial operations.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, management, business administration, or related field.
* Five (5) years or more of progressive accounting/management experience with extensive accounting skills.
* Three (3) years of supervisory/management experience.
* Advanced Excel skills.
Preferred Qualifications
* Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
* Experience with PeopleSoft or similar ERP, USAS, and in creating dashboards, reports, templates, and tools to support finance employees in daily tasks.
* Accounting experience in higher education.

Schedule
Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.
Standard Working Conditions
1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
