This position will be a part of the Sponsored Programs Accounting team. The successful applicant will participate in and assist with all areas of the post-award accounting functions.

Sponsored Programs Accounting provides Grant and Contract Post-Award fiscal and administrative support to USUs campus community and external funding partners. We help ensure regulatory compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, as well as USU Policies & Procedures.
Responsibilities:Grant & contract accounting/financial reporting for Sponsored Program awards and overhead funds:
- Account Reconciliation
- Accurate and timely invoicing/financial reporting
- Cost share tracking/reporting
- Accounts receivables
- Effort reporting
- Compliance with federal and state laws & regulations, university policies and procedures, and awards terms and conditions
- Regular, documented communication with Principal Investigators (PIs), Business Services, Sponsors, Sponsored Programs Office (SPO), and others as needed
- Provide training to campus community and SPA personnel
Supervise two or more SPA personnel:
- Provide support and oversight for entire team in all aspects of grants and contracts administration
- Create a friendly work environment, encouraging questions, team cohesiveness, and effective communication
- Provide constructive criticism/correction when needed
- Review teams awards for special terms and conditions and abnormal reporting requirements prior to set up; address with SPO/Sponsors if necessary and document outcomes
- Review invoices/financial reports for accuracy
- Ensure timely submission of invoices/financial reports, and required documentation (when applicable)
- Use reporting tools to identify and address potential compliance issues and look for anomalies/errors
- Engage with team by holding regular meetings to discuss issues and document resolutions
Support the Sponsored Programs Accounting Manager
Reporting and accountability:
- Inform SPA Manager of issues as soon as they become apparent
- Evaluate performance of team members and provide feedback to SPA Manager
- Assist with projects and apprise the SPA Manager of the status, requesting direction as needed
- Prepare and analyze reports as requested
- Accept miscellaneous assignments from the SPA Manager to assist in the operation and accountability of the department
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in accounting or finance related field and 4 years accounting experience, or Masters degree in accounting or finance related field and 2 years accounting experience
- Evidence a thorough understanding of accounting principles, techniques, and reporting standards
- Advanced computer skills including MS Excel experience and proficiency in additional MS Office applications including Word, Access, and Outlook
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize workload
- Willing to ask and receive direction
- Team player who is concerned for the success of the entire Sponsored Programs Accounting department, as well as Utah State University as a whole
- Demonstrate the ability to provide analytical reviews, direction, and assistance to different parties (i.e., employees, departments, sponsors, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in accounting
- Supervisory experience
- Sponsored Programs (Grants and Contracts) experience
- Knowledge and understanding of Uniform Guidance, with the ability to interpret regulations and guidelines for multiple programs funded with complex and broad guidelines for spending
- Knowledge and understanding of USU Policies and Procedures
- Experience with Banner software, including grant module
- Experience with compliance pertaining to sponsors' terms, university policies/procedures, and federal/state regulations
