The Vice President of Accounting at Red Cedar will oversee accounting and financial reporting for a growing private equity-backed homebuilding company. This key leadership role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial data, strengthening internal controls, and supporting strategic business objectives. The VP will drive process improvements, enhance compliance, and deliver financial insights to guide decision-making. Reporting directly to the CFO, this position will work closely with company leadership, operational teams, and external partners to support Red Cedar’s vision for growth and efficiency in the homebuilding industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the preparation and timely delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and any relevant regulatory standards.
- Ensure compliance with private equity reporting requirements, providing clear and concise financial data to stakeholders.
- Lead the coordination and completion of annual audits, addressing auditor queries and findings.
- Manage all tax compliance activities, including federal, state, and local filings, and work with external tax advisors as necessary.
- Lead and develop the accounting team, ensuring a high level of performance and engagement.
- Build and mentor a strong accounting team capable of supporting the company’s continued growth.
- Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, providing guidance and training on technical accounting and industry best practices.
- Partner with the CFO in overseeing the annual budgeting and forecasting process, ensuring alignment with company goals and private equity sponsor expectations.
- Conduct financial analysis on operational performance, including profitability, cash flow, and cost controls, to support business decisions.
- Drive improvements in budgeting processes to enhance financial visibility and forecasting accuracy.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls to protect company assets and ensure financial data accuracy.
- Oversee internal audits and work with operational teams to strengthen compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks across the organization, working closely with legal and compliance departments.
- Provide accounting leadership during M&A activity, including due diligence, post-acquisition integration, and financial reporting for newly acquired entities.
- Support strategic initiatives by providing financial insights and analysis that drive business growth and profitability.
- Prepare and present financial reports, KPIs, and other metrics to private equity partners, the Board of Directors, and other stakeholders.
- Lead the evaluation and enhancement of accounting systems and processes, ensuring scalability and efficiency to support rapid growth.
- Oversee the integration of financial systems for newly acquired companies, ensuring a seamless transition into the organization’s financial structure.
- Stay informed on emerging accounting technologies, regulations, and industry trends to keep the accounting function cutting-edge and compliant.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required, MBA a plus.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a proven track record in leadership roles.
- Experience in the services industry, preferably within pest control, environmental services, or a similar field; experience in a private equity-backed company is highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Experience managing financial operations in a multi-location service business model.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and experience with financial system integrations.
- Industry experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing procedures and process that move the business forward.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize and manage long-term projects.
Schedule:
- Monday-Friday, standard daytime hours; 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Occasional weekend work may be required.
Job Type:
- Full-time position, averaging 40 hours per week
Compensation:
- $150,000 - $200,000 annually
- Bonus potential
