The Social Media Associate supports the Social Media Manager and is collaboratively responsible for creating daily social media content, growing Climate Reality’s social media audiences, reporting on social media efforts, and finding innovative ways to increase Climate Reality’s brand visibility online. Currently reporting to the Social Media Manager, the Social Media Associate has no direct reports. This position is within a union-represented collective bargaining unit, and specific terms and conditions of employment will be subject to a collective bargaining agreement between Climate Reality and the union. This is a full time, exempt, benefits-eligible, hybrid position. The Climate Reality Project offers a flexible hybrid schedule, with staff working from our office in downtown Washington, DC at least two days per week to enable and encourage collaboration within and among teams. The salary for the role is $57,500 USD per year Duties and Responsibilities

Implement the organization’s social media strategy, including assisting in managing a cross-channel editorial calendar, ideation, writing, and posting organic and paid messages to social media, private social networks, and other channels. Conceptualize, shoot, and edit videos for social platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc. Record direct-to-camera videos. Research new social media trends, tools, and benchmarks and recommend organizational responses to capitalize accordingly Support the identification of key influencers, celebrities, and partners, including brainstorming and executing innovative ways to leverage supporters, partners, and advocates on social media to expand influence, affinity, and authority of the organization’s brand. Track strategic metrics, including analyzing, reviewing, and reporting on the effectiveness of campaigns to maximize results. Support and/or manage social media efforts during organizational training and event promotional periods, including on-the-ground support for trainings and events. Responsibilities include outreach toolkit development, capturing content, working with photographer-videographer, conducting on-the-spot interviews, editing in a fast-paced environment and more. Multitask and follow up on assignments, delivering on deadlines effectively, including rapid response content following major breakthroughs or events. Monitor social media properties for customer service and fan conversation opportunities, including initiating conversations and engaging in online dialogue, monitoring social networks for violations of posting terms and community standards, and removing posts as required. Support and contribute to the ongoing improvement of our operations and enrichment of our culture, for example by serving on ad hoc or ongoing work groups, assisting with the onboarding and training of colleagues, and participating in efforts to assess, refine, and strengthen our culture and practices. Other duties as assigned. Required Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated experience crafting accurate and engaging content across multiple social media platforms. Demonstrated understanding of video production techniques, including scripting, filming, and editing. Willingness to record direct-to-camera videos. Experience and/or willingness to learn to build and support management of social media ad campaigns across various platforms and monitor ad performance and metrics. A love of writing and content creation is important with an ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format. Ability to work in a fast paced environment, pivot and rapidly execute content creation within hours. Basic to intermediate understanding of driving engagement and conversion across social media channels, as well as the synergy between paid and organic strategies, with a willingness to learn more. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail, working knowledge of quality control processes and procedures, demonstrated ability to identify and solve complex problems independently. Ability to travel domestically and internationally 2-4 times a year for trainings, events, and other engagements. Care deeply about both climate change and environmental justice and want to work to solve the climate crisis and create a healthy and equitable future for all. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer required. Education and Experience

Equivalent experience and/or a Bachelor's degree welcome. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in social media software, such as Meltwater, Hootsuite, or SproutSocial. Experience using Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva for graphic posts and videos. Preferred experience and interest in creating engaging videos for social channels such as Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube/Shorts, and more.
