POSITION SUMMARY The Executive Director serves as the visionary leader of Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity (CSC Habitat), propelling the organization’s mission to unite communities and create pathways to homeownership, empowerment, and hope. This dynamic role calls for a strategic and inspiring leader who can expertly oversee daily operations, build strong board relationships, and champion robust fundraising and community initiatives. The Executive Director is tasked with ensuring seamless program delivery, unwavering compliance, and financial resilience. Success in this role requires exceptional leadership, strategic insight, financial expertise, and the ability to energize and guide a dedicated team while nurturing impactful community alliances. Reports to: Board of Directors Located in: Columbia, SC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Strategic Leadership Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement long-term strategic plans that advance CSC Habitat’s mission and goals. Provide strategic oversight to ensure organizational best practices comply with local, state, and federal laws per Habitat for Humanity International regulations. Inspire and guide staff, volunteers, and board members towards a shared vision of community transformation through homeownership and neighborhood revitalization. Uphold high standards of governance, including the implementation of board policies, by-laws, and organizational guidelines. Collaborate with the board to manage risk and develop policies that promote sound governance and sustainable growth. Operational Excellence and Business Acumen Ensure the seamless execution of home-building and repair programs, community development projects, and homeowner support services. Assess strategic housing goals and partner with lead staff on land acquisition and property development . Support the ReStore General Manager in optimizing revenue generation and operational efficiency. Provide strategic oversight and guidance to ensure that human resources, finance, and program delivery systems are efficient and aligned with Habitat for Humanity's best practices. Ensure the effective management of operations, with a focus on program compliance, quality assurance, maintaining high standards across the organization. CSC Habitat Visibility & Impact Serve as the chief spokesperson championing CSC Habitat’s mission and representing its vision to the community, media, and other partners. Cultivate and maintain high-level partnerships with community leaders, key stakeholders, and organizations to enhance the public profile and foster strategic alliances. Engage in community outreach to promote volunteerism, strengthen partnerships, and advocate for affordable housing solutions. Ensure the development and execution of comprehensive communication strategies that convey organizational impact and strategic goals. Financial Oversight & Fund Development Provide strategic oversight of the budget, driving financial planning and ensuring sustained financial health and long-term stability. Partner with the Finance and Operations Director and Finance Committee to monitor financial performance and implement corrective actions as needed. Lead and inspire strategic fundraising initiatives, collaborating with the Development Director to build and execute a strategic fundraising plan including the cultivation and stewardship of key donor relationships. Talent and Team Development Lead and empower a high-performing team, fostering professional development, collaboration, and a culture of inclusivity and ensuring they reflect the values Habitat for Humanity upholds. Work with the leadership team on recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention strategies to maintain a motivated and skilled workforce. Ensure a structured performance evaluation and continuous learning opportunities exist. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree in nonprofit management, business administration, social work, public administration, urban planning, or a related field 10 years of progressive leadership experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization, preferably in affordable housing, community development, or a related sector. Experience managing and leading teams, including staff and volunteers, and a proven track record of fostering a positive organizational culture. Experience in fundraising and donor relations, including grant writing, securing corporate sponsorships, and managing individual donations. Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial forecasting, and nonprofit accounting practices. Ability to ensure the financial health of the organization. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships with board members, donors, volunteers, local government officials, and other key stakeholders. Understanding of housing policies, community development principles, and the challenges faced by low-income individuals and families. Deep commitment to Habitat for Humanity’s mission of building affordable housing and providing homeownership opportunities for low-income families. Familiarity with working with a board of directors, including reporting, strategic planning, and governance practices. Familiarity with the regulatory environment related to nonprofit organizations, housing development, and construction (e.g., compliance with housing laws, land use regulations, etc.). Ability to navigate challenges, adapt to change, and develop creative solutions to complex issues. A management style that prioritizes inclusion and collaboration, develops individual and team strengths, and promotes community; the ability to inspire, empower, and value staff and volunteers.
