About this Position / Responsibilities:

Develops and implements advanced cyber defense solutions and changes, safeguards the infrastructure from infiltrations of exfiltration, and assures that the system is built to specs and successfully deployed.

The Digital Modernizations Office of Cybersecurity (DMCS) requires a meticulous and expert-level Cybersecurity Engineer to provide support for leading and managing the implementation of enterprise network perimeter (firewall) security solutions. This role is critical to implement the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Audit requirements and the resultant needed upgrade, redesign, and maintenance of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authoritys (WMATA) firewall environments. This role requires a strong background in firewall management and understanding of perimeter security controls and best practices.

This position is primarily based in an office environment (non-remote), with occasional requirements to execute tasks in various locations. Some flexibility in working hours may be necessary to accommodate task implementation requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert-level network security support, security engineering, and implementation on network security firewalls, load balancer, and VPN devices.
  • Design, implement, and manage network security devices including firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, and Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS).
  • Design network security devices including firewalls.
  • Implement network security devices like load balancers.
  • Manage VPNs and Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS).
  • Continuous monitoring and assessment of network security by testing and implementing new security technologies.
  • Provide customers with enterprise network security solutions based on application and infrastructure requirements.
  • Provide network security support on Microsoft Azure infrastructure.
  • Collaborate in the design and implementation of complex network technologies (Data Center, Cloud, Hybrid)
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and Work Instructions
  • Perform platform lifecycle management activities (patching, upgrades, policy configuration, etc.) for assigned platforms and/or tools.


Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure Virtual Network including configuring access lists in the Network security Group
  • Expertise in Juniper Firewall configurations, encompassing both contemporary Junos OS and legacy ScreenOS
  • Strong proficiency in F5 load balancing technology.
  • Proficiency in FortiWeb and PaloAlto configurations
  • Ability to reconcile complex data sets
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and levels
  • Knowledge of industry best practices for IT Network security
  • Technical proficiency in using office productivity software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace)

5 Yrs - Experience working with Microsoft Azure Virtual Network including configuring access lists in the Network security Group.

8 Yrs - Expertise in Juniper Firewall configurations, encompassing both contemporary Junos OS and legacy ScreenOS

8 Yrs - Strong proficiency in F5 load balancing technology

8 Yrs - Proficiency in FortiWeb and PaloAlto configurations

10 Yrs - Knowledge of industry best practices for IT Network security

BS Degree or equivalent experience in IT, Computer Science, or Engineering

Professional certifications in Juniper Networks, preferably JNCIE-SEC, and F5
