The adjunct faculty member is responsible for providing curriculum and instruction to their assigned courses. Duties will include course creation, grading, student feedback, instruction and faculty meetings. Instructors will be assigned which courses to work and will teach according to the school schedule.

Compensation Range: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour

Hours: Up to 15 hours per week

Requirements

  • All Bethel College faculty are required to comply with all applicable policies set forth by the College, including the Employee Code of Conduct, principles of Academic Freedom, and Instructor Responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
  • Responsible for successful delivery of course material in accordance with the syllabi. Must plan and execute instruction at least once per week.
  • Provide input and, in some cases, create curriculum within the area of specialization. Partner with other faculty and the department head to contribute to the growth of the program.
  • Able to assess the student’s mastery of the course material and to provide feedback and guidance to students as needed.
  • Must enforce established attendance policies. Responsible for keeping record of student grades and for on-time submission of grades via the LMS (learning management system).
  • Must be available for office hours in person or via video conference (Zoom) during a consistent time period each week, as defined in the Faculty Handbook. Office hours must be posted in the LMS.
  • Respond to communication from students and colleagues within 48 business hours (with exception of one day per week that is consistently observed as sabbath and communicated in the LMS; for example, many faculty observe sabbath on Sunday).
  • Online remote instructors must have adequate internet access for video conferencing instruction and/or office hours.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in an applicable field
    • Bachelor’s programs require a minimum of Master’s degree
    • Certificate programs require a minimum of Bachelor’s degree
  • At least five (5) years of verifiable experience in an applicable field (as an instructor, performer, and/or industry professional).
  • Alignment with and commitment to teach in accordance with the Core Values and Faith Statement of Bethel College

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as an instructor or teaching assistant (TA) in an applicable field
  • Experience writing curriculum and syllabi
  • Experience instructing in a comparable environment (online or on-campus instruction, depending on the program)
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Previous experience with a focus on customer service, counseling, mentoring, and/or pastoral care
  • Possess a growth mindset; able to successfully navigate periods of rapid institutional growth and to ensure consistency in instruction delivery regardless of the pace of change
