CDL B Driver
Schedule:
M-F Day Shift, Schedules vary with possible overtime and earlier start times; needs to be flexible upon business demands
Type of Position: Full time, Temp to hire driver position
Payrate: $20.00/hr.
Job Description:
Operates the international flatbed truck or its equivalent (GVWR over 26,000# requiring a Class B License) to fulfill the Company’s hauling obligations.
Job Functions:
  1. Responsible for adhering to all safety practices and procedures while performing tasks in all work areas.
    1. Observes prescribed safety methods, procedures, recommended use of equipment as well as rules governing the loading and discharge of liquid caustic soda and other hazardous materials.
    2. Reports all accidents as soon as practicable providing full details pertinent to the accident such as date, time, location, vehicle(s) involved, person(s) injured, damage(s) involved, witnesses, etc.
  2. Delivers products to customers.
    1. Reviews daily delivery orders prepared by the Warehouse Supervisor to establish delivery routes and quantities for discharge at customer facilities.
    2. Prepares daily trip reports for review by the Warehouse Supervisor.
  3. Keeps Warehouse Supervisor informed of all problem and unusual situations encountered at customer locations and during the loading and discharge process.
  4. Maintains assigned truck in good operating condition by conducting daily checks to include proper inflation of tires, adding water, filling diesel, and checking oil levels.
  5. Prepares daily driver vehicle inspection report to include all detected defects.
  6. May perform minor mechanical repairs to truck, as necessary, and report corrective action taken.
  7. Maintains required logs and reports as specified in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR).
  8. Maintains good housekeeping in assigned general work area as well as assigned truck.
  9. Fills containers and tankers, loads containers onto delivery vehicles, discharges materials as applicable, and offloads containers. Cleans containers and tankers before reuse.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
  1. Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
  2. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
  3. Eye-foot coordination in accordance with visual stimuli.
  4. Ability to push and/or pull levers and/or pedals as in operating a manual transmission vehicle, high lift/forklift, opening chutes, or controlling valves.
  5. Ability to climb, ascend, or descend stairs.
  6. Ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, sitting, and crouching.
  7. Stooping: able to bend the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist.
  8. Crouching: able to bend the body downward and forward by bending the legs and spine.
  9. Ability to move (by rolling) cylinders weighing up to 150lbs.
  10. Ability to wear a respirator for emergency response situations.
Qualifications:
  1. Ability to read, speak, and understand the English language.
  2. Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with hazardous materials endorsement; also requires minimum of one-year truck driving experience and a good driving record.
  3. Minimum one-year experience in warehousing activities; also requires current forklift/high-lift certification.
  4. Familiar with the handling and storage requirements of hazardous materials such as caustic soda, chlorine, acids, vikane, etc.
  5. Familiar with company policies, stock rotation principles, and safe practices relating to equipment operation and the loading/securing of cargo.
  6. Knowledgeable in methods and procedures specified under the following parts of the FMCSR: Part 391 – Qualification of Drivers (Subparts B, C, D, E, & F [as applicable]); Part 392 – Driving of Motor Vehicles (Subparts A, B, C, D, E, F, & G); Part 393 – Parts and Accessories Necessary for Safe Operation; Part 394 – Notification, Reporting and recording of Accidents; and Part 395 – Hours of Service for Drivers.
  7. Knowledge of locations and streets on island.
  8. Basic mechanical aptitude. Understanding of use and care of all assigned tools, equipment, and vehicle.
  9. Basic math skills.
  10. Ability to perform under stress, when confronted with an emergency, critical, unusual, or dangerous situation.
  11. Medically qualified.
  12. High school diploma or equivalent.
