Job Description
Operate Non-CDL Straight Trucks under 26,000lbs GVW in the local Tampa Bay area.
Tasks
- Experienced driver to operate and maneuver trucks weighing over 10,000 lbs. & under 26,000 lbs. GVW to transport and deliver household goods.
- Experienced driver to operate motor vehicles within the rules and regulations of the DOT for local, intrastate, and interstate household goods relocations.
- Experienced driver to operate a straight truck as needed to service local, intrastate, interstate, and international shipments, or to perform shuttle services for interstate loads.
- Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
- Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting household goods.
- Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
- Safely secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
- Safely maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
- Immediately report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
- Maintain motor vehicles in proper working condition that meet or exceed DOT standards.
- Provide packing services when required.
- Protect customer’s homes from damage prior to the loading and unloading of shipments.
- Construct a descriptive written inventory of household goods being transported.
- Safely load household goods cargo for safe and secure transportation in trailer or straight truck.
- Safely secure shipment using straps and logistics bars.
- Obtain and submit weight tickets for each shipment transported.
- Read maps and follow written or verbal geographic directions.
- Contact customers to provide shipment updates and delivery windows.
- Maintain contact with Operations Manager / Fleet Manger to ensure proper routing and trip progress to meet multiple delivery windows.
- Maintain contact with Relocation Coordinators and booking agents to ensure all services are authorized and performed to the customer’s satisfaction.
- Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
- Minimize claims occurrences.
- Report to work with a flexible schedule.
- Follow uniform requirements.
Qualifications
- Prior experience as a driver for household goods relocations is a plus.
- Knowledge of the transportation industry, specifically household goods and logistics is a plus.
- Ability to provide high quality customer service.
- Ability to meet multiple deadlines.
- A high level of organization and willingness to LEARN, as well as a team player attitude.
- Skills to communicate directly with customers, managers, agents, relocation coordinators and sales personnel.
- Ability to lift-up to 100 pounds.
- Minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
Requirements
- Must maintain a valid Driver’s License and must be insurable at a certain minimum coverage.
- A Class “D” Driver’s License is required to drive motor vehicles under 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight.
- Must pass criminal background check.
- First Class is a Drug Free Workplace. Must pass pre-employment, random, and DOT urinalysis drug test.
- Must have a current or Obtain a Valid DOT Medical Card prior to employment.
- Must be qualified as a driver or must be able to obtain qualification as a driver.
- Must maintain an operating cell phone with service.
- Must have own means of transportation to and from work.
- Must be able to perform work in the United States.
- Must be able to clear access to Military Installations.
