Mission of Dental Assistant
The dental assistant reports to the practice administrator. The mission of the dental assistant is to help facilitate patient understanding of the treatment needed as well assisting the doctor with chair side dental procedures. The dental assistant is accountable for creating a relationship with patients, assisting the doctor to increase doctor production. The dental assistant must be knowledgeable about dentistry and be able to work with the doctor in a wider variety of dental procedures.

Key Responsibilities
- Seating patient and provide patient comfort
- Updating health histories and taking vital signs
- Be completely prepared for procedure prior to the dentist coming in treatment room
- Assisting chair side with dentist with a wide variety of procedures
- Taking x-rays
- Taking impressions, pouring up impressions and lab work
- Some independent work with patients (seating crowns, adjusting dentures, applying fluoride, and more) within the assistant’s scope of practice
- Ordering and putting supplies away. As well as stocking rooms
- Patient education about procedures
- Cleaning and setting up rooms
- Sterilizing instruments
- Equipment maintenance and upkeep
