Reporting to the Director, Dental, the Dental Assistant provides quality care and services to patients by assisting dentists and other staff in a variety of patient care, office and laboratory duties. The Dental Assistant affects the efficiency and productivity of patient flow through timely, accurate and professional preparation of patients and patient information, including taking and processing x-rays. The Dental Assistant ensures all patients enjoy a positive experience, and are treated with the care and compassion expected.
HOW YOU'LL SUCCEED:
- Ensure all patient records and related documents are managed and maintained timely, accurately, and consistent with all HIPAA and related regulations and requirements.
- Affect favorable billing and collection outcomes. Ensure all patient services and billing information is collected and submitted timely and accurately.
- Ensure all tasks provided and associated with patient care, patient administrative processes, and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as clinic policies and procedures.
- Develop favorable relationships with all patients. Instruct patients and their family members on general oral health care and/or information related to post-treatment care as appropriate.
- Establish favorable working relationships with all staff members associated with clinic operations, including Patient Services Representatives (PSR), dental hygienists, dentists, and related staff.
- Uphold and consistently always represent the values and mission of the organization. Represent the organization in a highly professional manner at all times.
- Ensure compliance and attention to all corporate policies and procedures.
- Prepare and maintain dental instruments, materials and equipment.
- Maintain infection control and follow policies for keeping operatories clean all the time.
- Collect and record patient health histories (dental and medical) and record information for dentist's reference prior to examination.
- Help patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment.
- Take and process x-rays.
- Assist dentist chair-side by organizing and preparing instruments for dentist's use and assisting as needed during procedures.
- Take dental impressions and pour dental models.
- Assist in referrals to specialists, scanning documents and insurance prior authorization accuracy as per treatment plan.
- Advise patients in oral hygiene and dental care.
- Follow through with post-visit duties.
- Backup the PSR positions, provide relief and support to PSR functions and perform office duties as requested.
- Interact positively with a diverse, sometimes difficult, and demanding patient population. Provide service in a manner that is appropriate for the patient's age; demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to meet the patient's physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
- Demonstrate commitment to the mission of the organization in promoting dental health.
- Read, write, and maintain patient records and related administrative documentation.
- Utilize the requisite tools, systems, technology and equipment in the collection of patient data, records management and collections.
- Demonstrate knowledge of dentistry procedures, clinic infection control procedures, cleaning and sterilization of instruments, tray setup and materials.
- Comply with all agency policies and procedures.
- Maintain all aspects of HIPAA, promoting patient confidentiality and right to privacy.
- May be required to perform tele-dental services as determined by Signature Health.
- Adherence and completion of compliance training provided by Signature Health.
- Responsible for and completes all productivity/documentation requirements.
- Participate in all assigned staff meetings and staff development programs.
- Demonstrate appropriate attendance and punctuality in adherence with Signature Health policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a dental assistant licensing or registration program as may be required by the state of Ohio.
- Radiation safety certification or successful completion of a radiation safety course.
- Certification in office practice or enrollment in such a program is desired.
- Demonstrated success in customer service/patient services or working with the public, preferably in a medical or dental care facility.
- Demonstrated success in managing difficult customer situations
- Knowledge of dental practices and procedures.
- Demonstrated success and experience with direct patient services and the proper knowledge and use of dental care devices and equipment.
- Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word and Teams] or similar software is required.
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office/clinical work environment.
- While hours of operation are generally standard, flexibility to work evenings and extended hours may be required.
- Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work.
- Hearing: adequate to hear clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
- Speaking: adequate to speak to clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
- Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
- Physical effort required: occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 15 pounds, unassisted.
- Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens while performing job duties.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular workday.
- Sufficient dexterity to operate a PC and other office equipment.
