Job Description
Job Summary: To transport and process donated, purchased merchandise, salvage or recycle goods for
preparation, sale, recycle or trash in-order to meet preset production and sales goals. To handle day to day
operations of processing, making bales, physically loading or unloading trucks and operating compressor
machines/compactors/shrink wrap machines, pallet jacks and dollies. To follow the core values of Goodwill of
Southern Nevada (GWSN).
Supervision Received: The Equipment Operator receives supervision from the Leaders of Operations, Support
Manager of Operations, Manager of Operations, and Senior Manager of Operations.
Supervision Exercised: The Equipment Operator does not supervise anyone.
Responsibilities:
Material Handling:
• Moving bales and salvage merchandise to various locations inside the warehouse.
• Day to day operations must be structured to allow everyone to meet preset production and sales goals.
• Depending upon the production needs, may be required to physically load or unload truck for/from
deliveries.
• Depending upon the production needs, may be required to assist in donations by:
Knowing criteria for accepting donations;
Giving prompt assistance to donors;
Offering every donor, a receipt;
• Following all safety policies, asset protection policies and Team Member policies as outlined in the Team
Member handbook, asset protection manual and safety manual
• Must report all injuries or safety & asset protection violations to a superior as soon as they occur or
before the end of their shift.
• Ability to operate safely a pallet jack, or hand truck.
• Must assist loading and unloading of trucks and trailers donations/merchandise during sweeps and store
deliveries as well at the warehouse.
• Must maintain excellent attendance and avoid any tardiness or early outs.
• Willing to become certified on the balers/compactors and OSHA forklift certified.
• Must unload any containers in the warehouse areas (bins, totes, gay-lords, etc.).
• Must be flexible daily to help where needed in the warehouse (compactor, baler, movement of
merchandise, trucks, etc.).
• Must keep work area clean and picked up at all-times.
• Due to the donation of materials, dust and animal hair may be present in the warehouse throughout the
year.
• Ensure compliance with all GWSN policies provided in the Team Member Goodwill Guidebook,
Goodwill Industries International standards, and safety and security regulations.
• Adhere to all GWSN Retail Manuals, handbooks, policies and procedures.
The Baler/The Tipper/Trash station is responsible for the following:
• Inspects baler/trash compactor for proper operation before beginning of shift.
• Follows and initials daily maintenance log. Notates any issues.
• Communicates malfunctions to supervisor.
• Must keep work area cleaned and picked up at all-times.
• Relocates cages or gay-lords to the baler for unloading.
• Unloads cages or gay-lords of clothing and places only the proper type of clothing into baler. Gives
remainder of goods to the appropriate sorting station.
• Accurately records number and type of bales produced and reports this to supervisor.
• Meets pre-determined daily goals for bales.
• Pulls clothing from z-racks and removes clothing from hangers.
• Moves empty pallet to baler area.
• Moves bales to storage area using a pallet jack.
• Breaks down boxes before loading them into the cardboard baler.
• Cleans work area at end of shift.
• Moving bales and salvage merchandise to various locations inside the warehouse with the direction of the
Leaders of Operations, Operations Support Managers and Manager.
• Bale all soft goods that are not high quality to send to our stores as well as cardboard to recycle.
• Assists in any other projects as determined by management.
• Ensure compliance with all GSN policies provided in the Team Member Goodwill Guidebook, Goodwill
Industries International standards, and safety and security regulations.
• Adhere to all GSN Retail Manuals, handbooks, policies and procedures.
Requirements:
• High school/ GED completion.
• Ability to follow verbal instructions and to work as a team member.
• Must be able to read and write.
• Must be able to continuously perform repetitive work, at a set pace.
• Must demonstrate the ability to learn the techniques of the job during first 30 days of employment.
• Previous experience using pallet trucks or hand trucks a plus.
• Must exhibit a high level of integrity and business ethics.
• Requires a high level of adaptability and flexibility.
• No record or disclosure of criminal conviction within 7 years from date of application that indicates a
tendency towards theft, violence, dishonesty, deceit, drug manufacture or sale, moral turpitude, or
predatory behavior.
• Must provide proof of identification and eligibility to work in the United States of America.
• Must be fluent in English; bilingual a plus.
Physical Factors:
Lift/Carry: Light up to 50 pounds. Push/Pull: Carts through the warehouse up to 100 pounds.
Environmental Factors: Due to the donation of materials, dust and animal hair may be present in the
warehouse throughout the year. Ninety percent of the duties are performed in the Goodwill Distribution Center
with concrete flooring that has quasi-regulated temperatures. Ten percent of the duties involve being outside
receiving donations deliveries or possibly loading/unloading a vehicle. Position is generally standing and
walking; some bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting will be required when dealing with merchandise or
donations. Exposure to heat, cold, dust and sometimes humidity is a possibility.
