The CDL Heavy Duty Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various types of heavy machinery, including but not limited to bulldozers, loaders, graders, and excavators, as well as driving commercial vehicles such as dump trucks, trailers, and other large vehicles requiring a CDL. This role involves site preparation, material movement, and assisting with the transport of equipment and materials to and from job sites.

Equipment Operation

Operate heavy equipment such as bulldozers, backhoes, excavators, front end loaders, graders, and other equipment needed.

Perform pre operation inspections to ensure equipment is safe and functioning properly.

Safely drive and operate vehicles that require a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), including dump trucks, tractor trailers, and other commercial vehicles.

Loading and unloading of materials using the appropriate equipment.

Ensure that all equipment is operated efficiently and within manufacturer and safety guidelines.

Site Operations

Work with site supervisors to understand project scope and follow instructions for site grading, excavation, and material placement.

Ensure that safety protocols are strictly followed on all job sites, including wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE).

Collaborate with the Construction Foreman to ensure project deadlines and objectives are achieved.

CDL Related Duties

Drive commercial vehicles to transport equipment and materials to and from construction sites.

Secure loads in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Maintain accurate logs and records of transportation activities in accordance with CDL requirements.

Skills / Qualifications

Up to Date and a Valid CDL (Class A) with a clean driving record

Extensive experience in construction, with a strong understanding of techniques, equipment, materials, and tools.

Proven experience operating heavy equipment (bulldozers, excavators, loaders, etc.)

Knowledge of state and federal transportation regulations.

In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, equipment, and OSHA safety guidelines.

Ability to read and understand project blueprints, site plans, and grade stakes.

Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with routine equipment maintenance.

Time management skills to manage schedules, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.

Thorough knowledge of safety regulations and the ability to create a safety conscious work environment.

Excellent communication skills for effective coordination and information sharing.

Strong problem-solving abilities to address challenges and adapt to changing circumstances.

Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high quality workmanship.

Required Education and Experience

High School diploma or GED equivalent

1+ years of experience in CDL Heavy Duty Equipment Operation

Preferred: OSHA Certification (OSHA 10 or OSHA 30) or MSHA Certification is a PLUS
