The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra – You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a Director, Supply Sourcing and Commodity Management.

The Director, Sourcing & Supplier Management is responsible for the end-to-end ownership of Harley-Davidson’s supply performance. This includes oversight and execution of identifying and developing new suppliers, sourcing, contracting, and driving category / supplier strategies for our motorcycle components and parts and accessories.

The Sourcing & Supplier Management function acts as the single relationship owner for quality, delivery and cost of H-D’s suppliers and will help deliver best in class results to achieve our Hardwire ambitions. This role will also deliver our ongoing procurement transformation to enable generations of riders to experience the joy of riding a Harley-Davidson.

The role is transformational in nature, so will require strategic thinking, effective problem structuring, and an ability to influence diverse teams.

The Director of Sourcing & Supplier Management will work through a team of both direct reports and matrixed representatives from business functions. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional and global leadership to determine key Sourcing & Supplier Management goals and execute a plan to meet Harley-Davidson’s Quality, Delivery, Cost and Product Development goals. Success will be measured based on:

For procurement: spend addressed, savings achieved and working capital impact (supplier payment terms).

For special projects: projects identified and impact delivered. Prioritization of the most meaningful opportunities and the ability to work cross-functionally is critical to success.

Job Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management

Key responsibilities will include oversight and assurance of sourcing execution, leadership of the Executive Sourcing Council which defines the optimal sourcing and contracting approach for all direct materials, and identification of new opportunities to better leverage H-D’s scale and unlock sustainable value for our company and customers; Work with Engineering, Quality, Logistics and Finance for Global Sourcing strategy development and execution.

Define and implement Global Sourcing strategies for all major categories aimed at achieving net cost savings as well as mitigating raw material inflation near term.

Establish global spend visibility to clearly define category spend baselines, current suppliers and track go-forward impact.

Interface with Finance to link Sourcing savings with budget.

Sourcing strategies will include volume aggregation, competitive bidding, low-cost country sourcing, eAuctions, should-cost models, raw material indexed contracts, “preferred supplier” programs, identification of new suppliers, demand management, policy/controls, and make vs. buy.

Deploy sophisticated supplier management including supplier/distributor scorecards, quarterly supplier business reviews, annual supplier conferences, “preferred supplier” designation, qualification of new suppliers, etc.

Organization

Leading the Sourcing & Supplier Management team, establish rigorous internal performance management system, including team and individual-level targets, scorecards and monthly tracking.

Achieve early wins to build organizational confidence and momentum; Embed learnings from the transformation project into our normal way of operating.

Ability to grow team going forward based on demonstrated impact.

Essential Job Functions

In partnership with the Transformation Management Office, provide governance and reporting for productivity, providing weekly status updates, leadership reporting and working closely with Finance to track and measure savings against commitments.

Ensure the team develops and maintains refreshed and comprehensive Category Plans, aligned with our lifecycle plan needs.

Education Required

Bachelors Degree required

MBA preferred

APICS/NAPM, CPIM or CPM certification or equivalent preferred.

Experience Required

This position typically requires a minimum 12 years’ experience at Senior Manager and Director level in Sourcing /Category Management at an industrial or engineered products manufacturing company. In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated the following:

Experience and success leading a large-scale procurement transformation effort.

Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Experienced with category management and multi-step strategic sourcing processes in a range of categories.

Skilled negotiator.

Experience with leveraged agreements, multi-year contracts, RFPS/eAuctions and should-cost models.

Deep experience in direct material strategic sourcing in H-D relevant categories.

Highly results-oriented and focused on business priorities with a successful record of accomplishments.

Excellent problem-solving skills – able to identify problems and/or opportunities for improvement and assesses viable solutions. Develop and execute comprehensive action plans.

Excellent supplier relationship management skills.

Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments concurrently, including ability to assess and manage priorities.

Effective communications skills, particularly the ability to communicate technical expertise.

Proficient in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Willingness and ability to travel to support vendors, suppliers, etc., up to 50% of the time.

Able to work flexible hours to support international teams, as needed.

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
