Carroll Transportation Group is a family-owned leader in asset-based trucking, warehousing, and 3PL services, dedicated to delivering top-tier service. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team at our Norfolk, VA terminal. This role is crucial to maintaining our fleet of diesel tractors, container chassis, and forklifts, and we’re looking for someone with a strong background in heavy equipment mechanics and a commitment to quality work.

As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will:

  • Perform preventive maintenance, including tire, oil, and brake changes on diesel tractors, container chassis, and forklifts.
  • Inspect and assess parts for damage and excessive wear.
  • Replace and repair tires.
  • Complete work orders, order necessary parts, and handle daily administrative duties as required.
  • Ensure all vehicles and equipment are properly maintained and safe for operators’ use.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and best practices while repairing equipment.
  • Accurately document repair activities in Repair Orders, detailing steps taken and parts used.
  • Collaborate effectively with peers and supervisors.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this role include bending, squatting, crouching, reaching, and lifting 50 pounds or more. Tasks may require working both indoors and outdoors. Please note, this description is not exhaustive; additional related duties may be required day-to-day.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of experience as a diesel/heavy equipment mechanic.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • TWIC card (a plus, but not required).

Benefits:

Eligible for 401(k) and health insurance after 90 days.
