Key Responsibilities

 

Inspections and Preventative Maintenance:

  • Inspects county vehicles in accordance with the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) and repairs all deficiencies identified during inspection.
  • Completes scheduled inspections and services on equipment and vehicles to maintain proper performance.
  • Ensures all work meets manufacturers’ specifications and legislated regulations.
  • Maintains records of repair and ensure all records are accurate.
  • Completes inspection reports for scheduled maintenance on all units as required.

Vehicle and Equipment Repairs:

  • Repairs County vehicles and heavy construction and service equipment; troubleshoots mechanical problems, perform either in-house repairs or coordinates for contract-out servicing; inspects all work before releasing for use.
  • Diagnoses faults or malfunctions using testing equipment to determine required repairs.
  • Repairs, adjusts, or replaces defective parts, components, or systems.
  • Interprets technical manuals and online diagnostic tools.
  • Responds to and prioritizes work orders.
  • Repairs vehicles off site if required.
  • Completes work orders and updates records.

Shop Maintenance and Operations:

  • Maintains safe and organized shop including housekeeping and the maintenance of equipment & tools within the shop.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of repairs, preventative maintenance, and inspection schedules with all Departments.

Position Requirements

Education

  • Heavy-duty Equipment Mechanic Trade Certification [required]
  • Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certification [preferred]
  • Will consider an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Experience

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience working with heavy-duty highway and or off-road equipment [required]
  • Experience working with techniques, tools, equipment, and safety precautions in maintaining trucks and heavy equipment [required]
  • Experience working with fleet maintenance [asset]
  • Experience working with computers and scan tool systems Cat ET, DDDL, Insite, Parts Pro, Shop Key. [required}
  • Experience working with municipal governments [asset]

Additional Skills or Qualifications:

  • Valid Class 5 required, Alberta Operators License; Class 1 and/or 3 or Q, considered an asset.
  • Fall Protection, Forklift, and Overhead Crane Certification would be considered an asset; however, training and certification can be provided.
  • You must provide your own shop tools.
  • The ability to obtain an Alberta Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program license.
  • Able to effectively meet physical demands in this position.
  • Moderate to heavy physical fitness level of activity, including being able to lift/carry more than 25 kg on occasion.
  • Fleet maintenance background would be an asset.
  • Demonstrates good prioritization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated safe working skills and a proven record of safe work practices.
  • Quality customer relations, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be willing to work outside in all conditions, including in challenging environments.
  • Basic computer skills, including utilizing Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), Fleet Maintenance Management Work Order Systems, and diagnostic software such as Cummins Insite, Allison DOC, CAT, E.T./S.I.S.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in technology.
