Job Title: Heavy Equipment/Diesel Mechanic
Department: Operations
Reports To: Shop Foreman
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible to diagnose equipment failures, perform repairs, and complete maintenance work on both shop and job site Heavy Equipment and Company Trucks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (“Incidental” job duties may be included but
- Troubleshoot, evaluate, diagnose, and repair Heavy Equipment and Company trucks both at the shop and at the job site, as required, with little or no direct supervision. Equipment to include but not limited to John Deer Excavator, Skid Steer, Rubber tire Loaders, Track loaders, Backhoes, etc.
- Perform scheduled maintenance on all Heavy Equipment and Company Trucks in a timely manner. Heavy Duty truck maintenance very 10,000 miles, every 5,000 miles for Light Duty trucks, and equipment anywhere from 250 to 500 hours of operation.
- Complete required service and maintenance paperwork on all trucks and equipment efficiently and accurately. Provide Shop Foreman with all truck and equipment service record paperwork in a timely manner.
- Always abide by all safety policies and procedures.
- Exhibit professional demeanor with team members and clients.
- Perform other assignments as directed by management.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE (Include necessary licenses and specialized training.)
- 6-10 years’ experience as a Heavy Equipment/Diesel Mechanic.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair Heavy and Light Duty trucks and construction heavy equipment.
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to perform research on the internet
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required
- Detail oriented and capable of carrying out a given task accurately and efficiently.
- Must be a self-starter.
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Must have own basic mechanic tools
- Must have a clean driving record
- Class B or Class A CDL license preferred
- Experience diagnosing electrical issues a plus

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. Must be able to stand, bend, climb and kneel for prolonged periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 150 pounds. Must be able to work safely in a variety of weather conditions and terrains. Position will require that employee have manual dexterity, good sense of balance and excellent hand-eye coordination. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites.
