This key role will lead and have full oversight of the Cedar Rapids, IA site. This position will report to the Vice President of Manufacturing in Madison, WI. The Cedar Rapids site is a new greenfield expansion to support SZG’s increasing demand and capacity expansion. This role will be responsible for and direct all aspects of the startup facility and be the face of our company to the local community. We drive operational excellence through a structure organized into cross-functional Business Units to manage metrics and lead our team in tactical and strategic initiatives.

This leader must value, demonstrate, and create a culture based on respect for people and continuous improvement. We define success by ensuring team member safety as an absolute performance requirement and driving strategies that further deliver on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost key performance indicators. A successful candidate will bring a lean belief system, lean experience/knowledge, and a demonstrated history of lean success.

Along with the new greenfield startup, the role includes developing and monitoring KPIs, staffing requirements, annual budgets, implementation of New Product launches, manufacturing strategies to exceed objectives, and development of people. The Director of Manufacturing will work with three other Directors of Manufacturing in Wisconsin and Arizona to ensure best practices are shared and Sites are consistent on performance, technology, and practices.

Essential Accountabilities for the position are defined as:

Owning and creating an initial and continuing culture built soundly on safety, respect for people, and continuous improvement.

Experience in leading or contributing to a successful startup of a new operation or facility. Must demonstrate an ability to develop processes and people to ensure success.

Leading Assembly, Metal, and Plastics Fabrication Business Units, cross-functional salaried resources, and hourly team members to achieve objectives.

Meeting KPIs of OSHA incident rate, First Pass Quality (FPQ), Customer Assurance Audits, Service Rates, cost, production, and efficiency goals.

Developing budget, capital requirements, resource plans, and identifying initiatives to continuously improve.

Allocating resources to deliver new products to product launch roadmap.

Communications, mentoring, and development of people and systems in the operations organization to continuously improve.

Experience Required

Experience with workforce planning and the ability to develop people to be competent and effective in their current roles and to prepare them for future growth opportunities.

Must have 10+ years leadership in a manufacturing environment.

Experience in Lean Manufacturing concepts, quality measurements, OSHA requirements, MS computer applications.

Must have effective leadership and strong communications/presentations skills.

Preferred

Prior experience in a union environment is preferred.

Education Required

Bachelors or better in Engineering or related field.
