Full Pay Range: $21.55 to $34.02

Position Summary:
The City of Prescott Department of Public Works is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable Equipment Operator for the Solid Waste Division. Under general supervision operates a motor vehicle and other equipment which may include an automated side-load refuse collection vehicle, an automated front-load refuse collection vehicle, a roll off refuse collection vehicle, a backhoe, an articulated loader, and a stationary boom crane to support solid waste activities at the City's transfer station.
Special Requirements:
This position may be required to work Tuesday through Saturday or any other schedule at the supervisors discretion. Rotational scheduling may be included. Must be available to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Essential Duties:
- Operates a motor vehicle and other equipment which may include an automated side-load refuse collection vehicle, an automated front-load refuse collection vehicle, a roll-off refuse collection vehicle, a backhoe, an articulated loader, and a stationary boom crane
- Perform routine maintenance and repair for vehicles and equipment used during the course of business
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip DOT inspection check for assigned vehicles and equipment
- Perform basic maintenance on equipment including greasing key components, washing and cleaning interior and exterior of vehicles, and cleaning air filter and radiator
- Perform maintenance of refuse collection containers on assigned routes
- Perform daily/weekly maintenance of the Transfer Station and yard in conformance with ADEQ and EPA regulations
- Assist in the setup, preparation, and cleanup of special events. Perform other tasks as needed
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent. Prior heavy or motorized equipment operator experience required. Experience driving side-load and front-load refuse collection equipment preferred. The successful candidate will possess, at minimum, a valid Class B Arizona Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or greater in good standing and be issued by the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division of Arizona Department of Transportation prior to start date of employment. A clean driving record is required. Candidate of choice must pass a pre-employment drug test and background/criminal history check. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
- Knowledge of operation of side-load, front-load, and roll-off refuse collection vehicles
- Knowledge of operation of backhoe, articulated loaders, and stationary boom crane
- Skill in basic vehicle maintenance
- Skill in following oral and written instructions
- Skill in safely operating miscellaneous construction equipment
- Skill in utilizing customer service techniques when responding to inquiries and complaints
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Sufficient to effectively and safely operate required vehicles and equipment necessary in performance of required duties
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and 75 pounds with assistance
- Must be able to see clearly, with correction if necessary, during both day and evening hours and in potentially adverse weather conditions and sufficient to effectively and safely operate required vehicles; read street/road signs, maps, and handwritten/typewritten material and perform required duties
- Sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate (reading, writing, speaking) in person and over the telephone and radio in English; bilingual skills beneficial
