Job Description
Position will be open until filled.
We are currently seeking:
A light equipment operator to join our team and operate a variety of specialized light equipment and perform manual labor tasks to maintain and repair City streets, sidewalks, facilities and infrastructure in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Operating a variety of specialized light equipment and performing manual labor tasks to maintain streets, sidewalks and City facilities; duties will vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
- Performing skilled and semiskilled construction, maintenance and general labor work within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; reports safety hazards, equipment problems and emergency situations.
- Assisting in resurfacing, oiling, patching, sweeping, grading and shaping roads; digging and filling holes; clearing and repairing roadways, shoulders and adjoining areas; installing, cleaning, repairing and maintaining sidewalks; clearing trash, brush, weeds and debris from roadways, structures, grounds and facilities.
- Performing traffic control activities as needed.
- Operating and maintaining a variety of vehicles, tools and specialized equipment.
- Inspecting, cleaning and performing routine maintenance work on vehicles and equipment; identifying and reporting mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
- Cleaning and maintaining City facilities; making minor facility repairs; assisting with the construction of new facilities and installation of equipment.
- Cleaning up and storing hazardous materials according to City policy and procedures; responding to emergencies as needed.
- Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm; overtime is required. This is an on-call position.
- Regular and timely attendance is required.

- Making routine operating adjustments and repairs to assigned equipment.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent; and two years of maintenance work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- A valid Texas Driver License with a good driving record is required; applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. A Texas Commercial Driver License Class B is due within six months of the hire date (additional compensation available for CDL B of $175/month); specific technical skills training and certifications may be required.
- Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Work is performed outdoors; requires constant physical efforts, and ability to lift and carry up to 113 pounds.
