We are seeking a licensed Master Electrician who is open to a flexible schedule to be responsible for preventative maintenance and installation/repairs of the electrical/mechanical tunnel and bridge systems equipment in support of a 24/7/365 operating environment VDOT contract. The qualified applicant will be responsible for preventive maintenance, installation, and repair of electrical/mechanical and digital tunnel and bridge systems equipment. This is to be accomplished on a routine basis as outlined in the responsibilities below.
This position offers a consistent, set schedule with a guaranteed 40 hours a week, paid training, and opportunities for overtime available.

Essential Functions:
- Maintain electrical wiring system and components in accordance with the provisions of the National Electrical Code and Industry Standards.
- Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Diagnose causes of electrical problems or failures to identify equipment and/or systems for repair.
- Inform personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders to provide information for making decisions.
- Inspect electrical systems and their components to evaluate their condition, identify necessary repairs, and recommend preventive maintenance actions.
- Operate and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely; assemble, install, maintain, and repair electrical apparatuses; make rough sketches; estimate cost, time, and materials of electrical work.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, isolate, and repair electrical malfunctions using various test instruments.
- Maintain, test, and repair electrical equipment for safety and efficiency; plan the layout and wiring of new or existing installations.
- Fabricate electrical parts; inspect completed work to conform with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable exterior and interior safety codes and regulations.
- Inspect related work performed by contractors; estimate cost, time, and materials for electrical projects; participate in the maintenance and operations of an electrical shop.
- Clean, maintain, and service tools and equipment used while performing duties.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical load centers and distribution systems.
- Analyze electrical plant operational characteristics, recommend deficiency corrections, and respond safely and appropriately to emergencies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of electrical theory and methods, materials, tools, equipment, and systems used in the electrical trade.
- Experience utilizing electrical schematics, diagrams, and specifications.
- Experienced in and/or knowledgeable of traffic monitoring and control systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to operate and perform work in a bucket truck.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License.
Education:
- High School diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
Experience:
- Licensed Master Electrician
- Minimum 2 years of field electrical experience performing preventive maintenance on commercial and industrial electrical components.
- Minimum 2 years of field experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical components, including 480 VAC 3-phase systems.

Work Conditions:
- 90-day probation period.
- VDOT industry training.
- Significant all-season/all-hour operating conditions.
- May be subject to short or no-notice work assignments.
- Work is primarily outside along interstate highways requiring necessary safety precautions involved in working with electricity in and alongside traffic.
- Fast-paced, multi-tasking environment subject to short or no-notice work assignments and exposure to inclement weather.
- The work environment is informal, both team and autonomy-oriented, and tasks are routine with variable pace and pressure.
- Weekend, evening, and overtime work may be required. Standing for prolonged periods, walking, lifting, carrying; frequently reaching, kneeling, climbing, bending, twisting, crouching, and balancing can be expected.
