PURPOSE:
The Master Sanitation Specialist is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation within our pet food manufacturing facilities. This role ensures that all production areas, equipment, and machinery meet strict hygiene and safety regulations to prevent contamination, protect product quality, and ensure compliance with industry and regulatory standards. The Master Sanitation Specialist plays a critical role in safeguarding the health and well-being of pets by ensuring that all products are manufactured in a clean and safe environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sanitation Planning and Execution
- Fully execute comprehensive sanitation plans, including daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules.
- Ensure all cleaning procedures are followed according to standard operating procedures (SOPs), including proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Conduct deep cleaning and sanitation of production areas, equipment, and machinery to prevent cross-contamination and maintain product integrity.
Compliance and Documentation
- Maintain detailed records of all cleaning and sanitation activities, including schedules, procedures, and corrective actions taken.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal sanitation regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
- Participate in audits and inspections, providing documentation and demonstrating compliance with sanitation standards.
Training and Leadership
- Train and mentor sanitation staff on best practices, safety protocols, and proper use of cleaning equipment and chemicals.
- Lead by example, promoting a culture of cleanliness, safety, and continuous improvement within the sanitation team.
- Assist in the development and updating of training materials and SOPs related to sanitation.
Quality Assurance
- Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to identify potential contamination risks and implement preventive measures.
- Conduct regular inspections of the facility to identify areas needing attention or improvement.
- Respond promptly to sanitation-related issues or emergencies, taking immediate action to resolve problems and minimize production downtime.
Inventory and Supply Management
- Monitor and manage inventory levels of cleaning supplies, ensuring adequate stock is maintained for all sanitation needs.
Continuous Improvement
- Stay updated on the latest sanitation technologies, methods, and regulations in the pet food industry.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of sanitation procedures.
Other
- Fill sanitation and personnel hygiene supplies throughout the production areas of the facility.
- Work collaboratively with production personnel and the FSQA Supervisor to make decisions that are best for the organization.
- Be a strong advocate for food safety and product quality.
- Report issues with regards to the food safety/quality assurance system (FSQA) to Leadership and adhere to the requirements of the FSQA standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Proven experience in sanitation or cleaning within a food manufacturing environment, preferably in pet food production.
- In-depth knowledge of sanitation practices, food safety regulations, and cleaning chemicals.
- Must feel “at home” in a refrigerated, multi-cultural, meat-processing environment.
- Must be able to be on your feet all day and frequently lift at least 40 pounds.
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, and other food safety and quality standards. Certifications in sanitation, HACCP, or related areas are a plus.
- Must possess excellent and effective communications, attention to detail, organizational, problem-solving skills and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Must possess a valid driver license and be able to travel between multiple facilities frequently.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The role involves working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to cleaning chemicals, machinery, and noise.
- Will require working outside regular hours, including nights or weekends, depending on the production schedule and cleaning needs.
- Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, twisting, pushing, stooping, and lifting heavy objects during cleaning activities.
