Job Summary:
The Master Carpenter is responsible for all aspects of carpentry from frame to finish including a reasonable understanding of all trades involved in the building process. This position is responsible for teaching and mentoring all crew members through every phase of their career path regarding carpentry and building. The position requires the ability to read blueprints, layout, and build off plans. The Master Carpenter works closely with the Project Manager to create daily and weekly plans for specific crews. The Master Carpenter may be required to step in as the designed site foreman when the Project Manager is offsite. The Master Carpenter reports to the Project Manager of Harbor & Hearth (a division of Relax & Company), works alongside many other company divisions, and must be a good team player.
Primary Duties:
Reads and analyzes blueprints and plans to construct high-end residential new builds, additions, and renovations. Consistently looks at the bigger picture including all trades needed to complete the job.
Set and measure progress against production goals as set out in the estimate.
Responsible for working with the Project Manager to create daily and weekly plans for the crew.
Must work as a team to keep track of project timelines.
Submits material and labor requests to the Project Manager promptly.
Manages a crew of Carpenters to include Journeymen Carpenters, Junior Carpenters, and Construction Field Support. This includes delegating carpentry tasks to appropriate staff to ensure the job is completely efficient, safe, and with the highest quality in mind.
Utilizes work order and purchase order processes as outlined by Relax & Co protocols.
Oversees the maintenance and care of company equipment.
Adheres to local building and safety codes and guidelines.
Conducts weekly safety huddles and addresses potential site safety hazards.
Suggests labor and staffing concerns and opportunities to the Project Manager and Construction General Manager.
Identifies training needs and ensures proper training is developed and provided to members of the carpentry team and potentially other areas if asked.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Based on project schedule deadline needs, some occasional weekend or overtime work may be necessary.
Relax & Company has the opportunity to be part of a a rotating schedule, sometimes including on-call, evenings, and weekends for additional compensation.

Ability to understand directions and read blueprints.
Ability to solve mathematical problems quickly and accurately.
Ability to properly care for and use tools of the trade. (Experience in using hand and power tools such as drills, chisels, sanders, saws, and nail guns).
Master-level understanding of carpentry principles and methods.

Experience using Buildertrend or similar software is a plus.
Education/Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Eight or more years of carpentry experience is necessary.
Successful completion of a vocational/technical college or apprenticeship program is a plus.
Experience as a construction site foreman is a plus.
OSHA 10 certification is desired
Physical Requirements:
Mechanical skills to use equipment, regularly.
Physical stamina to handle the long hours of performing strenuous work during the day in hot or cold weather.
Prolonged periods of standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
Physical strength when performing heavy labor is required. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at a time.
Must have manual dexterity, good balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
Competencies:
Complete knowledge of the Carpenter Journeyman II duties and competencies by either working in the position previously with Harbor & Hearth or in a similar position at another company.
Expert knowledge of all aspects of carpentry from frame to finish.
Must be able to read blueprints to execute layouts and build off of them through a team.
Have an expert-level understanding of framing and building operations.
