The Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an exceptional leader to join the Department of Internal Medicine as Chief of the Division of Hospital Medicine. Successful applicants will be eligible for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level and should have experience in clinical leadership within an academic medical center.

About the Department of Internal Medicine

The Department of Internal Medicine is home to 20 categorical residents per year, which includes a Primary Care Track and a Distinctions Track in Care Transformation, plus 5 preliminary interns in Medicine. Dell Seton Medical Center (DSMC) is a 220-bed, safety net, Level 1 Trauma Center, and serves as the inpatient training facility for this program. In September 2021, Dell Med’s IM program deployed a resident staffed team to Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin (SMCA) Hospital. SMCA is a full-service hospital with 24/7 emergency care and comprehensive Level 1 Stroke Center. SMCA also have a Level IV Trama Center.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Overall responsibility for the academic and professional well-being of the Division of Hospital Medicine.

Leadership in improving patient outcomes, clinical operations, and patient and provider experience.

Partnering with Dell Seton Medical Center leadership and Seton Medical Center Austin.

Recruitment, annual performance evaluation, promotion and retention of faculty.

Professional development of faculty, including promotion of educational skills and scholarship.

Collaboration with other Division Chiefs and Department leaders to build a strong academic Department.

Communication and coordination with leaders in the Department, Medical School, and Dell Seton Medical Center to ensure the excellence of Dell Med educational programs.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Accomplishments that qualify the candidate for appointment as an Associate or full Professor.

Leadership of improvement initiatives with demonstrated results.

Experience as an educator at the undergraduate and graduate medical education levels.

Current board certification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in the state of Texas.

The strongly preferred qualifications:

Previous experience in a leadership role in a Division of Hospital Medicine.

Demonstrated excellence in an overall mix of skills including clinical care, clinical teaching, and scholarly activity.

Track record of scholarship.
