Position Description: Culver-Stockton College is seeking an Associate Director of Bands/Director of Athletic Bands and Recruitment Specialist who will be a part of the academic Music Department and report to the Chair of the Fine and Literary Arts Division. This is a full-time position beginning in the fall of 2025. The successful candidate will serve as Director of the "Thrill on the Hill" Marching Band and Pep Band, work with the Admissions Office and Divisional faculty as the Fine Arts Recruitment Specialist and work closely with the Director of Bands and Music Department Chair to realize the mission of the Department of Music, teaching courses that align with departmental needs and the candidate’s area(s) of expertise and interest. While the position is open to any qualified candidate, preference will be given to candidates that can teach private lessons in either brass or percussion instruments. This position will work directly with the Director of Admissions to coordinate recruiting efforts and will attend regular meetings with admissions.
Responsibilities:
The individual will primarily be responsible for developing and providing leadership for the Marching Band and Pep Band programs.
The individual will enter the Thrill on the Hill band in the Homecoming parade, Hannibal Band Day, and Quincy Dogwood Parade along with such other parades as determined each year.
The individual will coordinate with the Director of Athletics to schedule performances at home football games and home basketball games as determined each year.
This position actively recruits students for the athletic bands and fine arts areas, regularly contacting prospective students through a variety of platforms, setting up and attending area school visits, helping to coordinate college visit days, and working in tandem with our college admissions office and marketing office for recruitment efforts and divisional PR outreach. The position will attend regular meetings as scheduled with the Office of Admissions.
This position works closely with the financial aid office to coordinate scholarship offers for athletic band and fine arts prospective students.
This position also supports the general education program and music program through coursework and lessons and serves on committees as needed.
This position maintains active engagement with student retention efforts and provides oversight of student workers.
The individual must have the ability to work effectively with students and colleagues and have a strong commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education.
Required Qualifications:
Completed Master’s degree in Music or Music Education or Instrumental Conducting.
A proven record of success in the marching arts at the high school and/or collegiate setting.
Demonstrated success in recruitment and retention efforts, preferably at the collegiate level.
Preferred Qualifications:
ABD or Doctorate in Music or Music Education or Instrumental Conducting or a related degree. A candidate with a doctorate will be considered for a tenure-track position.
A proven record of success in the marching arts at the collegiate setting.
Experience in arranging music for winds and percussion and writing marching band drills using computer assisted design software.
Experience teaching in higher education, specifically teaching brass or percussion lessons.
