Location Description:

Michael Foods, Inc. located in Lenox, Iowa and often called the "Pearl of the Prairie" is where you can find small town living, focused on family and friends, with big city amenities not far from reach in Des Moines, Omaha, and Kansas City. Located in southwest Iowa, Taylor county, with a population of around 1400, the Lenox area reaches far beyond the city limits with beautiful and productive fields of corn, beans, and other croplands. Lenox holds an amazing four day Rodeo every July and is home to a beautiful 36-9 hole golf course, several fishing and boating lakes, great area hunting, a beautiful city park with swimming pool, and many picnic parks. The MFI location in Lenox produces primarily pre-cooked egg patties. POSITION SUMMARY

Supervise a maintenance shift that supports plant operations.  Key skills are people management, operational knowledge, training ability, developing expectations and follow-through.

 

This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervision of maintenance crew.
  2. Ensure parts requisitioning is done properly
  3. Create work orders and PM’s.
  4. Assist with the installation of new equipment.
  5. Troubleshoot problems with equipment.
  6. Ensures a safe work environment for employees is provided and that all employees are following all safety policies.
  7. Recognizes and takes steps to resolve operating problems in order to minimize their impact on the operations.
  8. Cooperates with all departments to assure a coordinated work relationship exists at all times.
  9. Keep accurate and up-to-date records (I.E. work orders, punch edits, etc.).
  10. Enforces company policies in a fair and consistent manner.
  11. Encourages suggestions from employees which will improve production, quality, safety and/or control costs of production.
  12. Keeps manager informed on operating and/or employee problems which may require their attention or knowledge.
  13. Schedule crew overtime.
  14. Involvement in Organizational Teams and committees
  15. Assumes personal responsibility to ensure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and, incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.

  17. Adhere to Quality work practices, follow all GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality
  18. Actively participate and/or lead a plant safety team.
  19. Ensures regulatory compliance at all times.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPEREINCE REQUIRED:

Associate degree (A.S., A.A.) or two-year technical certificate in Mechanics and Electronics preferred or a related field and two years of mechanical and electrical maintenance and supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Communication and interpersonal relations as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisors, vendors, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Ability to learn computerized maintenance management system.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanics, welding, electrical, fabrication, boilers, refrigeration, preventative maintenance, plant operations, PLC’s, general electrical and government safety and environmental regulations.
  • Able to supervise department personnel in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Be able to recognize problem situations and take appropriate steps to resolve.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required.
