POSITION TITLE: Caseworker Coach I, (Residential Support Specialist) La Posada
REPORTS TO: Program Manager, Homeless Services, San Diego
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
TIME COMMITMENT: Full-or Part time (40 hours/ week) Overnight availability required
SALARY: $20.00-22.00/hour, plus $1.00/hour shift differential for overnight shift

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Caseworker Coach I is an essential member of the La Posada Team responsible for ensuring participants are served in clean, safe environments, support residents in meeting realistic attainable goals that lead to obtaining safe, stable housing. The Casework Coach will develop a strong working knowledge of community resources and establish collaborative working relationships with colleagues within and outside of Catholic Charities. They will motivate, support, and guide the people we serve.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Welcome and orient new participants to the shelter; complete initial intakes and explain program routines and behavioral expectations
- Provide a consistent presence in the facility while remaining mindful of residents’ physical, emotional and psychological safety
- Prepare meal supplies and assist with serving meals as needed. Oversee after-meal clean up and ensure supplies are fully stocked for the following day
- Assist participants in developing life skills (e.g. how to use showers, laundry facilities, maintain the environment, resolve conflicts, navigate social service delivery system, etc.)
- Support residents in following through on established goals, check-in with participants after off-site appointments, document progress and barriers to success and identify possible solutions. Assist with problem-solving
- Assist participants in gathering and obtaining documents necessary to achieve their goals and obtain housing
- Ensure facility is clean, well maintained and support participants in completing chores in a timely and efficient manner
- Keep supervisor apprised of issues, problems, complaints and/or concerns expressed by residents
- Document services provided, maintain sign-in logs and other record-keeping processes; Document significant events in the daily log and email notes before the end of your shift
- When applicable, facilitate participants’ access to technology used to meet with internal CC and external service providers
- Additional duties as assigned by your supervisor to support the shelter and the people it serves
- Foster a trauma-informed, safety-focused culture within La Posada
- Develop a comprehensive base of knowledge of county-wide resources that address the needs of people experiencing homelessness; Maintain up-to-date knowledge about community resources
- Participate in case management, training conferences, and program monthly meetings as scheduled
- Work collaboratively with coworkers within Catholic Charities Homeless Programs and establish and nurture collaborative relationships with colleagues from other agencies providing similar or complementary services
- Document all contacts with residents in files and Clarity HMIS and may include entering information into CES (coordinated entry housing placement system)
- Complete and submit all required monthly reports and assigned paperwork as needed in a timely and accurate manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree in Human Services, social or behavioral sciences or related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum one-year experience serving people experiencing homelessness, living with substance use disorders, and/or mental illness
- A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn and grow
- Well-developed listening skills
- Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred but not required, must be able to read, write and speak English
- Successful completion of a live scan background clearance
- Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches to service delivery. Prior knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, Housing First, and harm reduction approaches to service delivery a plus
- Strong computer skills and ability to become proficient with database software. Must be able to successfully complete training to enter information into Clarity Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)
- Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record
- Willing and able to obtain a Food Handler’s Certificate
- Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize
- Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently
