Job Description
POSITION : Under the supervision of the Resident Manager or ARM, the Resident Advisor is responsible for providing shelter supervision (custodial) and delivery of residential services to residents within the framework of the Mission Statement, Five Principles. This position is required to adhere to all agency Policies, Procedures and practices (time/attendance, cell phone, telecommunications, safety, remaining awake/alert, etc). Overnight staff must stay awake for the entirety of the shift.
PAY RATE: $19.00-$21.00
SHIFT: Overnight Shift 12:00am - 8:30am (Friday-Sunday)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential Functions of Resident Advisor's is to support Case Managers, Supervisors, and other program areas in providing residential services as outlined below:
- Provide custodial supervision of the shelter, including coverage of the various areas of the facility.
- In compliance with established policies and procedures, provide support for Case Managers and Supervisors, including, but not limited to, the following:
Sign out TAP cards, as designated.
Pack, tag and store belongings of discharged residents.
Inspect the facility for safety and maintenance.
Log medication and document when resident takes their medication
Answer telephones and monitor residents' telephone calls.
Complete work orders and requisitions, as needed.
Complete discharge paperwork.
Build rapport with residents.
Work directly with residents doing triage, (i.e., field questions, ask what residents need, clarify the problem, ask if Case Manager is aware of a problem, etc.).
Supervise residents in completion of chores and supervise at client mealtimes.
Inspect common areas and bedrooms for cleanliness on a daily basis.
Monitor residents in clothing room.
Be alert to residents and surroundings even during one-on-one conversations.
Function as Person in Charge (PIC), as designated.
Provide support to Human Trafficking victims, residents with higher mental health needs that are permitted to stay on-site during the day for additional support.
Coordinate and facilitate in-house group activities for the residents.
Assist with supervision of residents during special activities and outings.
Be timely and present at all scheduled meetings, including transitions, staff meetings and trainings.
Professionally document, as needed. This includes documenting residents' files, critical incident reports, transition book, special covenants, and other forms, as necessary.
Develop knowledge of the current community resources and referrals, which may entail attendance at off-site meetings and trainings.
Communicate pertinent information to Case Managers, Supervisors, and Supportive Services.
Be familiar and comply with agency policies and procedures. Report any deviations to Supervisor.
Understand and integrate the Five Principles of the Covenant House Philosophy, (immediacy, sanctuary, value communication, structure, and choice).
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma Preferred. Relevant life and / or work experience will be considered in lieu of HS Diploma.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 1-2 years' experience working with at risk youth.
SKILLS: Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills. Must be computer literate (Word, Outlook, ACCESS, etc.) Must be a self-starter and team player with the ability to work with other staff members, clients, vendors and the public.
TRANSPORTATION: Must have valid CA driver's license, good driving record and reliable transportation.
KNOWLEDGE: Adolescent Development, Crisis Intervention, Multi-cultural Awareness, knowledge/training of Pro-Act, CPR and FIRST AID.
