We are currently looking for a highly skilled Overnight Veterinary Technician to join our emergency care team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in veterinary emergency medicine, with a focus on critical care nursing, patient triage, surgical support, and life-saving interventions. As an Overnight Veterinary Technician, you will play an essential role in providing continuous patient monitoring, administration of emergency treatments, and assisting in trauma surgeries, all while ensuring patient comfort and emotional support for concerned pet owners.
This position offers a $2/hr shift differential for all hours worked after midnight (12 AM) to recognize the added responsibility and importance of providing overnight care in a 24-hour emergency facility. Additionally, we are offering a $2,000 sign-on bonus for qualified candidates who bring experience in emergency veterinary care, ICU nursing, and critical care procedures.

Key Responsibilities
- Emergency Care Support: Provide immediate, high-quality care in emergency situations, assisting with triage, patient stabilization, and rapid assessment of critically ill or injured animals in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Life-Saving Interventions: Perform critical interventions, including pain management, fluid therapy, intubation, CPR, and medication administration (IV, SQ, IM, PO), following established protocols to stabilize patients in emergency and critical care situations.
- Critical Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitor and assess vital signs and changes in patient condition, utilizing emergency care protocols to ensure timely and accurate interventions. Provide detailed updates to the attending veterinarian for optimal patient care.
- Advanced Emergency Procedures: Assist veterinarians in advanced emergency procedures, such as fracture stabilization, laceration repairs, and wound care. Your expertise will be critical in supporting life-saving surgeries and interventions.
- Diagnostic Testing: Perform a wide range of diagnostic tests, including radiographs (X-rays), bloodwork, urinalysis, fecals, and cytology, ensuring fast, accurate results for timely diagnosis and treatment decisions.
- Intravenous Catheter Placement: Expertly place IV catheters for fluid therapy, blood draws, and emergency interventions. Monitor and maintain catheter function to avoid complications and ensure proper patient care.
- Sedated Procedure Assistance: Assist with sedated and anesthetized procedures, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and effective monitoring throughout the process, including procedures such as fracture stabilization and wound repair.
- Patient Recovery & Comfort: Provide comprehensive care for hospitalized patients, including ongoing pain management, hydration therapy, and regular vital sign monitoring to ensure a smooth recovery and minimize stress.
- Medication Administration: Administer medications as prescribed via various routes (IV, SQ, IM, PO), following precise protocols to ensure safe and effective delivery of emergency and chronic treatments.
- Client Communication & Education: Serve as a key point of contact for pet owners, offering compassionate support and clear communication regarding their pet's condition, treatment plans, and prognosis. Provide education on preventative care, post-care instructions, and the importance of follow-up visits.
- Patient Care Logistics: Manage the flow of patients within the emergency department, including discharge coordination, providing detailed aftercare instructions to owners, and ensuring timely updates to medical records in the EMR system.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with a skilled team of emergency veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff. Share expertise and knowledge, ensuring a collaborative approach to patient care in a fast-paced emergency setting.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Minimum of 2-3 years of veterinary technician experience in a clinical setting, ideally with exposure to general practice or emergency/critical care environments. Experience in handling high-acuity cases, trauma care, and urgent medical interventions is highly valued.
- Certification as a Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, or CVT) is preferred, but not required. We welcome candidates who are actively working toward certification or have equivalent hands-on experience in veterinary clinical practice.
- In-depth knowledge of veterinary procedures such as anesthesia administration, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, surgical assistance, and patient monitoring. You should be comfortable in performing tasks with precision and efficiency in both routine and emergency situations.
- Experience with critical care and emergency situations is a major plus. Your ability to assess and stabilize patients in acute distress or trauma situations, while remaining calm under pressure, will contribute significantly to patient outcomes.
- Strong competency in general medical mathematics including calculating medication dosages, fluid therapy, and anesthesia protocols, ensuring accurate and safe delivery of care. Your attention to detail in this area is critical to patient safety and effective treatment.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex medical terminology and treatment plansin a way that is approachable and understandable to clients. You will be the voice of reassurance for pet owners, clearly communicating diagnostic findings, treatment options, and post-care instructions.
- A team-player mentality is essential in this role. You will be working collaboratively with a diverse team of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff to ensure comprehensive patient care.
