OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

The IDEALS office leads centralized efforts to support the basic science departments in three ways: 1) developing and implementing pathway programs and recruitment initiatives to increase the diversity of the trainee and faculty population in the School of Medicine, 2) developing lectures and training materials to increase the cultural competency of the School of Medicine academic community, and 3) providing strategic support and accountability metrics to the Basic Science department chairs to promote inclusion in the research environment at the unit level. The Duke Biosciences Collaborative for Research Engagement (BioCoRE) Program is the signature PhD student support and development initiative within the IDEALS Office.

The goal of BioCoRE is to create a strong and supportive community of PhD students who are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
