Tesla is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to lead the development of innovative manufacturing processes for existing and future drive units. In this role, you will design and prototype automation equipment to support process validation and pre-production builds while providing essential design for manufacturing feedback. As you guide new products from concept to production, your efforts will drive high volume equipment process and design. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate closely with Product Design, Operations, Facilities, Production, and Quality Engineering teams to create drive units that set industry standards for performance, efficiency, reliability, and production volume, all while solving industry-first challenges.Responsibilities Design automated and semi-automated tooling to support manufacturing process validation and prototype builds for drive unit assembliesDevelop and test new manufacturing processes for existing and new productsProvide design for manufacturing feedback to product design engineeringManage the procurement, construction, and deployment of automated production equipmentManage suppliers during specification, design, buyoff, and installation of manufacturing equipmentRamp high volume manufacturing equipment to meet acceptable performance before handoff to operationsIdentify and drive continuous improvement and cost reduction programsGenerate and maintain machine documentationsActively use tool data sources (e.g., MES reports) to quantitatively evaluate and track tool performance and create programs to improve relevant metrics Requirements Prior internships or full-time experience in mechanical design of machinery and manufacturing engineering or similar roleProficiency using 2D & 3D CAD to generate engineering drawings, manufacturing layouts (Solidworks, Catia, AutoCAD)Experience working with automation systems, robotics, PLCs, and data collection systemsExperience with manufacturing processes including fastening, press joining, induction heating, dispense, leak testing, robot pick and place, machine vision, and part feedingWorking knowledge of data analysis, statistics, SPC (JMP, Minitab)Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experienceAbility to travel 10% of the time, both domestically and internationally Compensation and Benefits BenefitsAlong with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Aetna PPO and HSA plans > 2 medical plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Account) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High Deductible Aetna medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) LGBTQ+ care concierge services 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D, short-term and long-term disability insurance Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation$80,000 - $240,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefitsPay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
