Electric Machinery Company, a division of WEG Electric Corp.Minneapolis, MNPosition: Manufacturing Engineer | Wind DivisionDepartment: Manufacturing EngineeringPrimary Objective of Position:The manufacturing engineer is the first point of contact for the manufacturing process and production issues (Wind Division); responsible for defining, evaluating, and improving manufacturing methods and procedures to improve safety, cycle-time, quality, and efficiency. The manufacturing engineer utilizes production-drawings & process specifications to minimize rework, costs, and cycle-times.Major Areas of Accountability: Actively serves as the manufacturing process expert resolving issues on the floor and addressing concerns of both management and production personnel for their area. Proactively ensuring the production-team is equipped with proper tooling & process specifications. Utilize technical writing skills to create documented process specifications & work instructions. Provides production-team direction with all relevant design interpretations including drawings, process specifications, and work instructions. Manages, organizes and categorizes existing tooling such that it can be readily located for each production. Responsible for production test set-ups and configuration development. Leads Manufacturing Design-Reviews prior to design release to identify issues with manufacturability, quality, costs, and/or delivery. Writes Engineering Change Requests for product improvements identified by the manufacturing team. Responsible for ensuring all quality related notifications are captured and dispositioned. Supports all areas of the factory including new machine builds, service rebuilds, and spare parts production. Proactively works to understand and communicate all the above aspects in advance of production such that no delays occur. Partners closely with LEAN continuous-improvement manager to study existing manufacturing processes and prioritize the highest impact opportunities. Support Continuous Improvement Initiatives to drive bottom line improvements.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: BS Mechanical/ Manufacturing/ Industrial Engineering, or equivalent, degree required. Experience manufacturing electric motors and/or generators preferred Minimum 3 years' experience in an industrial production environment Minimum 3 years' experience designing and fabricating production tooling Self-Managed Six Sigma Green Belt preferred Proficient with Solidworks, Autocad Ansys and vibration analysis tools preferred Knowledge of SAP preferred Demonstrated record of managing projects that produce quantifiable-bottom-line improvements. LEAN Practitioner; successful at applying LEAN concepts to industrial manufacturing processes. Excellent written and verbal technical-communications skills Competent public speaker capable of interacting with all levels of staff Demonstrated problem-solving skills Optimize information and process flow, and manufacturing process Customer interaction and management skills are essential Must be able to read & interpret work orders, production-prints and specifications. Self-starting, results oriented, flexible, team player Ability to coordinate and manage multiple tasks simultaneously Ability to teach, motivate, and work with all levels of production and support personnel Ability to lead & interact with various teams of various disciplines to obtain consensus on issues Ability to communicate and present detailed, technical initiatives to non-technical people Ability to work closely with shop personnel to troubleshoot issues as they arise Ability to efficiently and effectively manage completion of assignments through appropriate personnelPhysical Requirements Several tasks require to work in leaning over, extended back position repeatedly, occasionally tight spaces, squatting, kneeling Physical ability to travel freely within manufacturing and office facilities. This requires climbing stairs and moving over, around, and about shop machinery. Have the physical ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds unassisted.
