Manufacturing Engineer
Nammo Defense Systems Inc., a defense contractor, manufactures and supports shoulder-fired systems; energetic material solutions such as aircraft emergency escape systems, actuation devices, rocket motors, warheads, medium & large caliber ammunitions, mortar ammunition; and composite solutions including carbon fiber tubes and composite aero-structures.

Primary Responsibilities as a Manufacturing Engineer
• Responsible for tooling design and documentation. Must have the experience with 3D CAD and 2D drafting
• Provide training to operations team
• Evaluate existing equipment and / or systems for methods to improve performance, efficiency, reliability and propose recommendations
• Technical writing
• Strong understanding and experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design of Experiments (DOE), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), and process hazard analysis (PHA)
• Identify and mitigate risks associated with critical assembly operations
• Apply working knowledge of product design and assembly to the manufacturing process
• Maintain equipment and tooling through coordination with maintenance team
• Identify and champion IR&D and continuous improvement projects
• Coordinate and perform all necessary validation and / or process engineering evaluations as needed for manufacturing equipment
Required Experience & Skills of a Manufacturing Engineer
• BS/MS in Engineering discipline or Physics with ability to perform basic engineering analyses (stress, deflection, flow rate, pressure drop, and tolerance stack-ups)
• 5+ years of experience designing (3D CAD + 2D drafting) and hands on support of automated assembly equipment in a production environment.
• Solid understanding of metal working tolerances produced by milling, grinding, turning, and laser/water jet cutting.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing
• Experience designing, installing, and qualifying production equipment including hand tools, fixture, and semi-automated equipment
• Proficiency at authoring technical documents such as test plans, test reports, manufacturing procedures, and project reports Hands on experience with machining (lathe and mill) preferred but not required
• Capable of performing assembly stack up analysis
• Knowledge and experience with selection of materials commonly used in tools, gages, and assembly fixtures
• Basic understanding of pneumatics, controls, sensors, and PLC’s
• Capable of performing basic stress analysis using hand calculations and/or FEA software
• Ability to obtain BATF approval to engage in certain explosive operations
