Primary Activities/Duties:

  • Lead and/or support new product development and launch.
  • Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods utilizing knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Manage capital equipment projects
  • Manage Improvement Projects.
  • Continuously review new technologies or processes to improve productivity/quality.
  • Support execution of all operations in a safe manner achieving a zero accident environment.
  • Meet/exceed all targets for quality, productivity, uptime, on-time delivery and cost.
  • Drive continuous improvement to achieve a “World Class” manufacturing environment through support of Rittal Production System.
  • Cohesively work with peers.
  • Design and implementation of tooling, fixtures and jigs for fabrication, welding, assembly and/or paint.
  • Manage/Develop relationships with tooling/fixture/equipment vendors.
  • Weekly updates for all improvement & equipment projects.
  • Maintain personal Action Tracker and update weekly.
  • Assist Maintenance in problem solving & troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment & process.
  • Investigate, recommend, and justify capital equipment and process to support operations.
  • Participate on and/or lead corrective action teams.
  • Develop and implement OPM and PM checklists.
  • Develop and implement work instructions.
  • Organize and manage project meetings to communicate and track progress of action items.
  • Actively participate in design reviews for ECN or new products.
  • Respond to manufacturing feasibility requests in a timely manner.
  • Attend production, staff, 1x1, and status meetings as required.
  • Active participant in improving the Manufacturing & Engineering organization.
  • Support budget development.
  • Support an “Open Door” environment.          
  • Actively engage with peers & management in creation of positive workplace culture.
  • Drive and/or support 6 S activities.
  • Participate in benchmarking activities to support ‘World Class’ manufacturing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Requires long durations on the manufacturing floor and/or long durations in the office at a computer.  Stand, walk, bend, twist, and reach frequently throughout the work shift. Occasionally lift up to 25 – 50 pounds to waist level and up to 25 pounds above the shoulders.

 

Mental Requirements

Work in a fast paced environment, adapt to assignment changes easily, ability to multi-task, learn office procedures and learn and use new software.  Must be detail oriented; communicate effectively via oral and written communications with all levels of employees, customers and vendors. Self-starter willing to work through and seek answers to on going new requirements. Must be able to work with minimum supervision.

 

Safety Requirements:

Wear safety-toed footwear, safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection and additional personal protective equipment where required.

 

Direction & Decision Making:

Complete directives given either verbally or written, make and assist in determining logical decisions.

 

Relationship:

Direct Contacts: Vice President of Operations, Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Manufacturing Engineering team members, Maintenance, Managers, Supervisors, Team Leaders, internal and external vendors and customers.

Indirect Contacts:  All other departments throughout the plant.

 

Knowledge & Experience:

  • 4 year degree in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial studies or >5 years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in metal fabrication.
  • Strong project management tools and examples of use.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present to Executive Management.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to ready mechanical drawings.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication welding, powder coating and/or stamping
  • Thorough understanding of Lean methodology
  • Understanding of Six Sigma quality management tools such as 5-Why, FMEA, Pareto analysis, etc.

Must work in both office and plant floor environment
