Manufacturing Engineer (Spacecraft)Department: ManufacturingEmployment Type: Full TimeLocation: Redondo Beach Compensation: $95,000 - $145,000 / yearDescriptionAs a Spacecraft Manufacturing Engineer at Impulse, you will be responsible for the manufacturing of solar arrays, chassis, mechanisms, propulsion subassemblies, and hardware integration for Mira.Mira is a high-performance spacecraft for payload hosting and constellation deployment. Mira's high delta-v capability and 6DOF control provide exceptional versatility for rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO) and space situational awareness (SSA). Flying since 2023, Mira continues to set the standard for orbital transfer vehicle (OTV) performance.ResponsibilitiesOwn spacecraft build from components through final assemblyBuild, organize and manage a multidisciplinary schedule to drive delivery of the spacecraft on timeWork and communicate effectively at a technical level with numerous teams across propulsion, avionics, structures, software, test, and manufacturingIdentify, track, and communicate build issues and work across the organization to drive resolutionsProvide feedback to design teams to improve processing of the spacecraft through the entire lifecycleWork directly with outside vendors, including periodic visits to those vendorsOwn the entire manufacturing life cycle for assigned projects & hardwareWork directly with machinists & technicians to produce high-quality hardware Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in an engineering disciplineDemonstrated experience of developing manufacturing processes from scratch Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment2+ years of experience integrating, designing, and/or building an aerospace, industrial, chemical, or material manufacturing processPreferred Skills and ExperienceMasters' degree in an engineering discipline7+ years of experience working integration/design/build an aerospace, industrial, chemical, or material manufacturing processHands-on experience working with complex fluid or mechanical systems in a professional settingDemonstrated expertise in the design, build, and operation of hazardous processing equipmentExperience using Siemens NX, SOLIDWORKS, or similar CAD softwareFamiliarity with industrial control systems (such as PLCs)Excellent written and oral communication, especially translating technical concepts for non-technical audiencesGeneral hands-on mechanical experience: welding, automotive, pumps/valves, rocketry, etc.Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphereFamiliarity with propulsion systems and hardware, and orbital tube weldingAdditional Information:Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity.
