Position Summary:
We are seeking an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to drive manufacturing excellence through yield improvement, process optimization, and defect analysis. This role focuses on ensuring that products are consistently processed to high standards while identifying and implementing improvement opportunities in manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automation, system design, and surface defect analysis.
The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer will report to our Director, Automation Engineering and will work onsite 5 days a week out of our HQ in Somerset, NJ.
Key Responsibilities:
- Yield Improvement: Analyze production processes to identify opportunities for yield enhancement, reducing scrap, and improving efficiency.
- Process Optimization: Develop, implement, and monitor process improvements across production lines to increase operational efficiency and ensure consistent output.
- Component/Part Analysis: Ensure that components and parts are accurately processed by conducting in-process and defect analysis (surface defect engineering, defect analysis engineering).
- Automation and Machine Building: Collaborate with the automation team to design, build, and maintain automation systems that improve production processes and reduce downtime.
- Data Analysis: Gather and analyze production data to identify trends, root causes of defects, and areas for improvement, making data-driven recommendations for process optimization.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, Operations, and Quality teams to ensure alignment on process improvements and implementation strategies.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives focused on continuous improvement, reducing costs, enhancing product quality, and improving overall yield performance.
- Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve process-related issues quickly to minimize impact on production and maximize machine uptime.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related field).
- 5 years of experience in process improvement, automation, or yield optimization within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of automation and machine building techniques and principles.
- Experience with component/part analysis and defect identification, particularly in surface defect engineering or in-process engineering.
- Proven ability to analyze and improve manufacturing processes to enhance yield and efficiency.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills with experience in Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies preferred.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to drive results.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Familiarity with manufacturing automation systems, including PLCs, robotics, and machine vision systems.
- Formal Design of Experiments (DoE) training and experience
- Experience with quality management systems and continuous improvement frameworks.
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and other data-driven decision-making techniques.
